No snuggles for me The older Tucker gets(he's 6 mths) the more he won't let me snuggle him. He lets me pet him and he loves me back but then he wants down to run and play. He doesn't like to sit and let me hold and snuggle him. Anyone elses Yorkie like this? I keep thinking he is just in the middle of puppyhood and as he gets older he will be happy to sit still and let me hold him. Any thoughts on how to get my baby to chill out! |
I'm sure it's a puppy thing. I have heard so many people say their dogs did not like to be held or petted when they were puppies, and then when they got older they were more "lap dogs." I'm like you, I can't wait for my puppy to enjoy the snuggling. My husband says we will then wonder where our "puppy" went!! :) |
just try to keep him happy while our holding him. sounds kind of like skin babies. the older they get the less they want to know you exist. i'm sure its just a fase (sp?) and he'll be back to cuddling with mommy. |
I've got a lap baby. You better not sit down more than a minute, because she will claim it as her own. |
They calm down after a certain age and I have a 3 year old and can say honestly - she acts EXACTLY like she did as a puppy - she still plays and acts as silly as when she was 6 months old.... I think Yorkies STAY puppy-like - at least in my own experience.... Keep playing with him and let him come to you - he will - they love attention !! |
That's good to know Villette. So we can have the best of both worlds!! :D |
My husband always says, "Bo is such a good puppy...when he's sleepy!" When he's playful and ready to rumble, watch out! You'll not catch him unless there's food involved. But when he's ready to rest he's right there beside us. He loves to snuggle when he's tired. And it is the best of both worlds cause he's a lap dog sometimes and a little ball of fire sometimes. |
:aimeeyork Princess is not a snuggler at all I cant even get her to lay down with me and take a nap. I wish she was a snuggler but every time I try she will wiggle so much I just end up putting her down on the floor. My Brownie is my snuggle baby and shadow no matter where I am she will be there on my lap or on the floor next to my feet. But Brownie has always been real mellow. Princess is so full of energy all the time, when I am sitting on the sofa she'll want up so I put her up then she will just play not snuggle at all. I hope she will someday like to snuggle with me. :( |
Hopefully, it's just a stage and he'll be a snuggle bug again once he gets a little older. |
Chloe brings me toy after toy to play and Lacey is just as happy on my lap, or by my side. I think sometimes its just the personality of the dog. Chloe can drive me nuts sometimes and then other times I"m sooo glad I have Lacey to sit by me when I read a book. |
Once I wear Coco out by playing she becomes a snuggle bug. But she has A LOT of energy and when it's play time, she doesn't want to snuggle. Once she's worn out, she will though. |
One of my choc males will not be hugged. He stiffens his legs and pushes away..But, I am blesed with 6 snugglers so there is no shortage here. As a matter of fact, y'all can come and snuggle with mine. All snugglers greatly appreciated. |
I would just continue to try to cuddle him especially at night when her is more tired. Chachi is not a cuddler either. As he has gotten older he lets you cuddle him more though. |
Tucker just doesn't realize what he's missing right now. :D As a puppy his world is just way to fun to be held down by hugs and kisses. Im guessing he will calm down as he matures and wanna be right there in your arms. :p |
Muffin was that way a bit. She'd come to you and want attention and loved to be hugged on, but then when you'd hugged her for awhile she'd want back down so she could go do her own thing. She was a busy little dog and loved to spend her days running around looking out the windows and doors. Who wants to be in a lap? Might miss out on something! :D She did like to take naps with ya though and wanted you to sit on the floor and play with her and brush her. But when she wanted to sleep during the day, she wanted to get in her daytime bed. She slept in our bed at night. |
I will keep hoping! Thanks for the advice. I hope he will outgrows it. He does give me a minute or two here and there to snuggle. I wish he enjoyed it more. I do believe dogs have different personalities. I love him to pieces just the way he is. I really would like to have one that snuggles too though. I may have to get a second one to be my snuggle bug. I am always looking for a reason to get a second yorkie :D |
My little guy too! Just last night I wanted to curl up on the couch an unwind and he didn't want any part of it! But he did go lay on the pillow next to me. To tell you the truth I was a little hurt by that. I hope that he changes his mind about cuddling soon. |
I too have one of those INDEPENDENT yorkies, a male,, he cuddles and comes when HE wants to, (usually the worst times), but I drop whatever Im doing because it few and far in between. I hope he gets more lovey,, he acts lovey more with my BF,, and that breaks my heart :( . But I think its cause hes with me ALL THE TIME,, 24/7 hes bored with me. Who knows?! |
I'll lend you my Maximus he would love to just lick everyones face off all day long...lol :) |
Snuggling w/ Strangers! The worst is when your babies will snuggle up to visiters and want nothing to do with you!!! At the end of the day though- they know who loves them most of all!!! ;) |
Yorkie with an agenda I know what you mean about the not bothering to take time out to cuddle. Mya is in a faze when she wants to run, jump, play, chase and now hide things. Her quiet time is when she is on our bed and sleepy, then she will cuddle. Otherwise she is a maniac and squirms unless I am holding her in a store or in a mall which amazes me. She also hangs out of her travel bag when the flap is down I was paranoid given her mood lately that she would take a flying leap out of it but she hasn't and we can secure her in it. We took her to a Canada Day Celebration at a local park. We gave up after one hour of her wanting to play with every single child she saw walk past her or near her. I am glad she is in a harness as I am sure she would have broken her own neck by now. I am surprised that she has not broken my wrist ! She is so strong right now and it is a battle to keep her on a short lead when her feet touch the ground. She used to sit quietly and let me brush and comb her everyday. Now that is a big game to her as well. We put her in the back yard for the first time. (we had seeded and were waiting for grass to grow) She was running around so fast you could hardly see her! I think it is just a thing they do because it is new and they can. Hahahaha Oh wait she was quiet today (when not sleeping), she was sweet and demure when romancing the cat next door for a half hour today. She has a hypnotic effect on him and he seems to mellow her right out. If I need a break I call him over to see her. He is so Yorkie whipped ! |
