Neighborhood dogs problems I am hoping that you might be able to suggest something that we can do to kept the other neighbors dogs out of our yard. We have called animal control, placed a 6 foot baboo fence behind the chain link fence. I have talk to the neighbors about this. Today my husband and Sal came back home. We took both dogs into the backyard Sal in his pen and Sherlock in the yard and then noticed that the neighbor's pitbull/lab chewed though the fence again. Guy walk around on the other side of the house and I went to open the back door to let Sherlock back in the house. All of a sudden ,Sal yep Jack the neighbor's dog was in our yard again. He pick him up Sal and drop him on the ground. Guy ran back and yelled at Jack he pick up Sal started back into the house. Sal is fine but we still have not clue what to do with Jack. |
animal control should fine them if their dog keep escaping their yard. Does the neighbors dog have tags on? if not i'd wait till the dog gets in your yard again then call AC and tell them you found a stray in your yard and want them to come pick him up. If the dog is dangerous and attacks your dog i wouldn't want him to come back. |
Were you neighbors cooperative when you talked to them? I think I'd call animal control everytime it happened. |
Ugh, it must have you at your wit's end! It's awful that even after talking to the neigbors you are still having the same problem. How forceful were you with them when you talked to them? |
It's the south Tell them if their dog comes in your yard again.... which you feel is a threat to your babies.... you will use deadly force to protect your babies. Say, I'm sorry about that... but you have been notified and have done nothing about it. Then shoot the mo.fo. Sorry... but ... that is how it works in the south. And I personally think... and I know a lot of you like pits... blah blah but my best friend when we were young had his arms ripped off by one.... then the owner filled in the holes they dug out after Gab. and cleaned his dogs... set Gab bleeding to death on the corner. So... because of this and the millions of like stories... I think that we should exterminate the whole breed. Sad that they were decent dogs... but the line has gotten way out of control and none are trustworthy! |

Pitbulls are misunderstood IMO and deserve all the rights other dogs have. It's sad to see stereotyping gone out of control for their breed. It's the irresponsible owners that are the problem, **not** the dogs. Blame the deed, not the breed. That's all I'll say about that. |
Pit bulls are always misunderstood until they kill a human child or a beloved pet or livestock. any brains they might have had at one time have been bred out by every red-neck or Mr tattoo wanna bee out there. Is there any way you can catch the neighbors dog and take him to the pound? Maybe a few times of bailing out the dog might make them think about confining the dog. Keep calling animal control as well. That way there will be a record of your calls. Did you try calling the police? |

It is not the breed, Pit bull is not a breed but a name given to three breeds. It is OWNERS faults not the DOGS! they only do what they are taught. they need time, exercise and training, it is really sad that this comes from a dog lover... i know pits that are as loving and loyal as Belle is... the only difference is about i guess 100lbs... but dogs need love and training, care, patience... and when owners can't provide that dogs can get out of control but IT IS NOT THE BREED! i hate that they have a bad rep... but the media has done that... please keep in mind that doggies do what they are taught and trained to do... if done well you have an awesome dog, if not...then you have to deal with the consequences, we should not spend so much energy to ban or exterminate the breed, but rather make sure that the owners are responsible in caring and training their dogs... |
I am new to the southern thing but I have been civil about this and nothing is changing. We have told them that we will call animal control on them again if this continues. They seem not to care. Guy and I our presently reinforce the fence line with cement. We are planning to use the tax check build a two foot cement block perimeter fence behind the baboo one. note If this dog bite my dogs I will sue |

I would suggest drawing some more attention to the situation. If animal control officials won't do anything about it. Call a local news station--see if you can get them to do a piece about it. Maybe that will get the neighbors to take responsibility for their animal or spur some action on behalf of AC. If the dog is not vicious, haul it off to the shelter. After having to make a trip or 2 and pay to get their dog back, maybe they will start keeping it contained.:) |
Safty first! I know this may sound harsh but if a dog like that ATTACKED me, (btw I am a small statured woman 5'1 and light weight) A dog like that could kill sombody like me. I wouldn't heasitate to save my own life even if it meant that the dog had to be injured or shot. It's a very taboo topic and I don't condone animal abuse at all!!!! However if a dog attacked me I would do what ever was nessicary to protect myself and my own dog. My safty out weights every thing else. May sound selfish but thats the way it is. Pits do get a bad reputaion and I agree its the owners fault! Now in your situation you haven't been attacked (yet){ I sincearly hope you don't btw} but that type of dog who doesn't have any limitiations or boundries could be a threat. Continue to call animal controle and for your own safty stay as far away from that dog as possible. I would also let your neighbor know that you see that dog as a threat since it isn't a well balenced dog most likely at the fault of the owner. It's not fair to the dog but it's also not fair to you and your family either. I would also alert the police like stated earlyer. Hope you stay safe! |
