scared yorkie My dog rarely comes to the door to greet me when i come home.He goes directly to his bed and when I go see him he's shaking like a leaf. When I go pick him up he pee's(out of fear i'm assuming). But if i leave him alone for like 5 mins he'll come to me and he'll be fine.I've scolded him for peeing in the house but he's fully house broken now,how can I get him not to be afraid when i come home. Like I said, after 5 mins or so he's all happy and all. After he pees he's the happiest dog you've ever seen.If i'm home all day he's fine,if i leave and come back he shakes like crazy, any suggestions??? I'm trying to bee as afectionate as possible.Like i said,he's loke that only for the first 5 mins or so...! Thanks. He's 2 years old. |
First off, welcome to YT! :welcome4: How old is your puppy and how long have you had him. The adjustment period of getting used to a new home can be really stressful to the puppy. In your potty training, you said you had scolded when he peed in the house. How hard did you scold? If you have a skittish puppy sometimes even the slightest scolding can really effect them (my sister's dog is so skittish you can't even say "NO" loudly without her running for cover). Positive reinforcement is the best way to cope with potty training. When you get a chance, please post some pics so we all can see your cutie. You will love it here and learn so many great things! |
Thanks. He's 2 yrs old,i've had him for 7 months now,at the begining he was not like that he always came to the door.I scolded him slightly hard,he's very submissive. He's fully trained to go outside,it's just that he's really scared of me ever since I scolded him.But only for the first 5 mins after I get home.If i'm home for a while,he always comes to me when I call him and listens very well. He comes to me and sits on me sleeps on me and plays with me,the problem is when i first come home. |
When you say that you had scolded him for peeing in the house, did you do the scolding right after you got home? Had he peed while you were gone and then when you got home, you scolded him? If so, you can't discipline the dog after the fact as they won't correlate you getting on to them with the peeing in the house. You can only discipline them if you catch them in the act. Instead of him correlating the scolding to peeing in the house, he correlated the scolding to you coming home. |
sounds right I was wondering if that is when she did it too... or I was thinking if you have carpet maybe he peed when you aren't home and it is dry and you won't know it. Does he have the full run of the house while you are gone? There are so many things to hurt the little ones I don't think that is a good idea. I would get a black light and see if maybe he is not as potty trained as you think. Maybe he is hiding and upset because he is smart and knows if you see where he has peed... he is in trouble. |
As soon as he peed in the house while i was there and on several occasions after the fact, but not hard just a firm "bad boy".Haven't done it since.I don't scold him for anything now as he waits for me to come home to take him out. I for got to mention that when i come home,if i see him go to his bed and shaking alot,I tell him "let's go outside" and then he runs to the door and then i take him out to pee and poop. And only then he's fine with me. Or if i give him a toy right away he will not be scared and come and play fetch. |
