Male or Female? I am new to the forum and I am looking to adopt a yorkie pup, I initially wanted a female because growing up I have always had female dogs, but the more I read it seems that the male yorkie is more affectionate and a better pet..is this true? I am not breeding my puppy I will be getting him or her fixed as soon as possible... Please give me yall opinion on what i should do? |
male or female I personally have found that there is indeed a difference between the two. as far as personality,a boy is usually more playful than a girl, if she is energetic he is more energetic.boys love you with lots of affection but the girls are more laid back and will cuddle next to you. they follow you more than the boys do. all you have to do when looking is observe the differences when you go to pick your pup, play with each one and you will see the slight differences.you will also have to pay attention to sex of litter as far as girl to boy ratio. if there are more girls in the litter the boy will be more calm and laid back, and if you are getting a girl out of an mostly male litter the girl will be more aggressive like the boys.and not to mention mom and dads temperment:rolleyes: |
i am hoping to go meet the puppies tomarrow, i have requested the female to be reserved for me, but I am still open to other options, i know there are 3 boys and two girls, but i don't want to get a female if she will be snippy and won't get along with other animals.. |
I think it depends on the pup. My female is super affectionate and cuddly. My male is more independent and more playful. |
I like the boys the best. They are more loving and affectionate. They love to be with you all the time where the girl I had was very independent. |
Each puppy is different! It goes either way I have seen. You will know which pup you want when your playing with them:D |
Im just new to this and need some tips on what to look for when i go to meet these pups, and make sure that my choice is the right choice for the puppy and for me... |
see which puppy comes to you..My son has the brother to my little girl..their little boy won't let them out of his site, to where my girls very seldom follow me..the little boys when they get older tend to be more affectionate..I only have the one boy, and he was full of pee and vinegar up until about a year ago(he's 2 1/2 now), but, he was the one always getting in to things..:) But, out of all of them, he's the most loving.. |
I have two adult males andd four adult and teen females. My males are ten times more affectionate than the girls. i also have a litter of five puppies. Three males and two girls. I have even noticed a difference in the personalities of the males from the girls. |
I think it is really depends on the pup. Chloe is definitely a mommy's girl! She loves follow me and my attention much more than my fiance. Since she is my first furbaby, I don't really know the difference b/w male and female. But I do plan to get another dog next year or so...and it will be a boy! However, I do like the idea dressing my furbaby up though? :p |
I have a male and a female. They are both affectionate. My male wants to be in my lap all the time. Good luck in your decision. |
Well it seems like everyone leans towards getting a male...i just called the lady that i was going to get my female from and for some reason she isn't getting rid of her anymore but she has 3 males...i like the idea of dressing up my pup too but i can still do that with a male im just a lil concernd about putting a males hair in a clip lol...does anyone do that? |
It depends on the animal! They do not automatically have certain traits because they are either male or female. We have had many animals that were both male and female. They are/were; who they are/were due to their personality, genetic make-up etc. -- not because of their gender. We presently have: 1 female Shih Tzu, 2 female Yorkies, 1 male cat and 1 female cat. They are all very different and have their own personality! We have had very affectionate males and females; and vice versa. Mammals are living and thinking beings--not assembly line products. We have had spayed females that liked to hump and raise their legs to pee; and have had males that squatted to pee and never showed any interest in any form of mating, both before and after being neutered. And these are traits that are usually the most gender related! When talking about showing affection, loyalty etc., the spectrum is as broad with animals as it is with humans. When you find the animal that is truely meant to be yours; you will feel the connection, in some way. The gender of the animal will most likely, not even be a factor. Good luck and early congrats on your new family addition! |
That's a question to which there isn't one answer to. Each yorkie is different and has their very own personality. I have two boys and they are the apples of my eyes. They are very loving and both are momma's boys. I've had girl dogs growing up and they were wonderful too. One thing is for sure, yorkies are the best- boys or girls.:D Good luck on your puppy quest! |

I really think your puppy choice should be about personality and not necessarily sex. I thought I was going to want a girl, but when I got there, Teddy "picked" me, he didn't really give me a choice in the matter  He was just the sweetest little thing and immediately ran up to me and wanted me to pick him up and gave kisses, he melted my heart and I didn't even give the girls a second look. Good luck in your puppy quest !:aimeeyork |

My point exactly! |
I have 2 little boys(brothers)...they are the most affectionate and loving little boys. One of my daughters has a little girl....Her girl is loving but not near as affectionate as the boys are...Even my daughter has commented on it.... So I do not think you can go wrong with either choice..... As for dressing, I dress my boys in their little vests and harness sets and they do wear hair clips and bands and bows...They look very boyish and no one has mistaken them for girls yet...There are some great YT'ers here that make really cute "BOY" bows.... I knew going into it what type of personality I wanted. I told my breeder that I wanted a laid back less dominant lap puppy. When I went to meet her puppies, she pointed out the pup that was like that. He happened to be a boy and I have to admit that I had my reservations because like everyone elso I wanted a girl to dress up and cuddle with. I was also afraid of marking and dominance. Well, he has been an absolute dream! He is the snuggliest most darling little thing and not at all dominant or crazy! He had a brother and two sisters. His brother was crazy bouncing off everthing! And pretty dominant. She said my puppy was the most laid back and snuggly of the four. I decided to take him home and I have never regretted it. My advice is to meet the puppies and take it from there. Tell the breeder what you are looking for personality-wise and try not to look at gender so much. I could have gotton a female just for the sake of gender and probabally not been as happy as I am with this little guy. Good Luck! |
I forgot to comment that my boy has two "macho" sweaters and I think he couldn't look any cuter! |
