? about my new puppy. I am full of questions today. I read on a website that when you bring your puppy home that you should give them a dose of the nutri-cal everyday for a couple of weeks until they get used to their new environment. It this something that you guys would recommend. |
I wouldn't just give it... giving nutrical for no reason can mess with their blood glucose levels...making them spike and then come back down fairly quickly. I'd wait and see how your puppy does...as long as the puppy eats well and pretty regularly, it should be fine without the nutrical. But if your puppy refuses to eat at first or you notice that it's becoming weak and hypoglycemic, then i would give it |
Welcome to YT :D I agree with Lacys mom... If your bab is eating fine, there should be no reason to use it. Cant wait to see pics :) |
I bought nutrical one time, just in case I needed it, I never had to use it..Now, I just make sure I have karo syrup(it works well too)..I wouldn't give anything like that just to be giving it to them..if they're not eating or drinking and become lethargic, then yes...just keep an eye on your baby.. |
Hi congrats on your new baby, Great advise has already been given;) Welcome to yt:) |
Hmmmm I give it daily....never thought about the blood glucose levels...spiking. |
As long as the pup is eating well (in intervals, not just once or even twice per day) and getting plenty of rest, it's not necessary. Just make sure that your new little one has a calm environment (no excessive visitors, turmoil or immediate 'fun' outings) and monitor him/her closely during this initial adjustment period.:) |
great advise given. I don't give morgan nutrical, even if she hasn't eaten a meal. Sometimes they just have upset tummies and don't want to eat so i don't force it on her. Nutrical can also cause diarrhea if given unnecessarily. Don't be fooled by the "vitamin" part written on the tube. Its basically a tube full of sugar so its NOT a daily vitamin. |
Thanks that is great advise!!! |
Make sure your puppy is at least twelve weeks old before bringing him home to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia. If you do, you shouldn't need to use Nutrical unless he shows signs of low blood sugar. |
Welcome to YT. Seems like you have all the information you need. |
