to the temptation of peepads...sigh...:rolleyes:

Maddie has always been outside trained, and we have a fenced-in yard. The two new girls do pretty well with it too. Sophie, however, started out doing awesome when she was 3 months old...and now had done a complete 180 and has accidents all the time.

I brought out a washable peepad that I used to have for Maddie when I first got her, and put it down. Sophie immediately went to it and started peeing, and all the others followed. She still has poop accidents (even though I take her out every 2 hours) on the carpet...but I'm sure that will get better with time. I think I'll have to use the washable ones, because they would probably have a field day tearing up the disposable ones. So, for those of you who use washable ones, where do you get yours?

Also, has anyone had experience training a dog that goes outside to potty to use a peepad AS well as still go outside sometimes? I want them to enjoy the yard...because it was built for them, but I would love to be able to do what I need to do in the house without worrying constantly about accidents. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a question about the washable ones too if its ok... does anyone else get grossed out by putting them in the washer? Can they be bleached with each wash? Are they expensive and how many do you need?

Well... I use the disposable ones - though the cost for those can add up. So now, I too am interested in the washable ones. I believe I saw some at Petsmart online, other than that I dont know other stores to buy them at.

We've pad trained Meka since day one (9 wks). Many accidents since then, but now at 8 mo's she's great with em'. We just moved her bed upstairs, and she's had no prob's going downstairs to her room (washroom) to use the pad. And when we take her out for walks, she naturally "goes" outside (we never really "trained" her to do that). Its been working great for us :)

Well, with 6 in my home, it's very difficult to catch ALL their signals to go out...and it's a big herd down the hall when they do...lol.

So I would love to have something they could use whenever they needed to individually.

OMG I couldn't do without my washable peepads!!! Some of my yorkies go outside and some use the pads. I have two that will use the pads and go outside. I always have at least 2 to three pads down in various places in the house. I get my peepads what use to be piddlepads.com. They may have the new link at that site not sure. Of course I'm doing dog laundry everyday LOL but I love them for when I have a litter of puppies.

Lady started out only outside trained since she was my first little dog. I was able to train her to use a pad by the door in a pinch while I was at work or if the weather was bad. Then I was in a bad car accident and wasn't able to take her out so I trained her to use the pee pads 24/7. I became a believer and now couldn't imagine not having a little dog who wasn't at least cross trained. Lady is a Maltese and I don't know if they are worse about bad weather than Yorkies are, but Lady does not do rain or snow. :D

I started with disposables, but have switched to washable pee pads. I started with Pish Pads and invested $150 in a roll including shipping. What a waste of money IMO! They get stuck together by the plastic backing in the washer and start peeling away and tearing pretty quickly. You can't bleach them so they get really stinky really fast. I ended up throwing the pads I had cut off the roll away after a couple of months. I have part of a roll left that I have no idea what to do with as I wouldn't use them again.

I have since found out from many others on another forum that they have had the same problem - they don't hold up and they STINK!

These people recommended Pooch Pads to me and I have been much happier with them. They are very well made, sewn together, and you can bleach them. I would really recommend them.

Pooch pad is the one I have down (the one that Maddie had from when she was a baby) and I like it pretty well. They're pretty high though...I think about $30-$50 or something...I can't remember.

My little boy will only go outside and potty, but my little girl will not go potty outside if it raining or if the grass is wet. I am guessing she thinks are little princess paws are to precious to get wet.:D

OKAY Nicki, now you got me thinking.......hummmmm!!!!

Murphy is my boy and we always trained him from day one to go outside but he still has an occasional accident in the house, usually a marking thing. Mia we got when she was 7 months old and the lady had pee pads down all the time. She was used to it but we started her on the outside training right away. She was great at first and now she has done a total 180 as well and is always going on my rugs.

I had considered doing the pee pad in my house but thought will I just totally confuse them if I do this or what? I just took a cloth pee pad I had from when I got Mia and stuck it on the patio to see if they would use it and they do occasionally. When I wash it I was it in detergent and bleach because like you I feel it needs to be bleached.

Now I am wondering if I should try to retrain my tow to use inside. Do you have any boys and if so do you think it would be a problem since they life their legs?

VERY reasonable prices, even on the brand new ones. I add bleach to the wash cycle, and do a triple rinse, with about 2 cups of vinegar going into the final rinse. Also I use hot water. There is NO odor that I can smell, though the girls know what to do:laugh:

Mine are trained to go outside, but I wish they knew how to go on the pads too, because they always have a poo accident. I'd much rather have it on a washable pad then my carpet. Ugh!

I use the throw away ones...I mentioned to hubby about the washables, and he said NO, not when we wash towels, and our clothes and bedclothes in there..guess if I had two washers it would be different, but, I really can see where he's coming from..
