family makes me SO MAD!!! My family is REALLY frustrating me right now, why dont they get it that i dont want my baby fed puppy food or catfood or whatever else they try to send his way when im not looking? Why is it so hard to just play and hold him and let ME worry about feeding him? My brothers fiance told me after i walked into the door at my parents house "bring toby over here right NOW please"..... exscuse me? how is that in any way nice ? there was no hi how are you, just that statement.... I told her "NO he is getting crate trained" so she proceeded to go over to the crate and TAKE HIM OUT!!!! after i just said NO?!!! I didnt yell at her, but i spoke VERY firmly that he goes back in his crate and he doesnt come out untill i say so.... in other words "get your slimy hands off my dog"... Then My brother got desert (ice cream and cookies) and put the dish right in front of toby's face inviting him to have some!!!! after i said NO PEOPLE FOOD !!! I said in a very firm voice "NO" to this too...... and all the while his fiance (whom i REALLY dont like, she is trying to take my place in my families heart, everythign that WAS mine is NOW HERS.... so there is animosity there) anyways, she is reaming me and talking to my parents and telling anyone who will listen that i am a raving bitch..... AND to top this all off, my uncle put toby on the ground in front of teh cat food dish!!! i said "no" again, but he IGNORED me and pushed toby closer to the dish!!!!! Why in the world does family NOT listen??? I know what is best for my dog, and the stuff they are doing wil make him sick and not crate trainable!!! OK, thanks for listening to me rant and rave, i really needed to get my frustrations out before i go into the "snake pit" on christmas....... |
Hang in there, kiddo, and stick up for YOUR little guy! You and Toby have a merry Christmas just to spite them! Don't let 'em get to ya -- just smile and pick Toby up and cuddle him and smile at 'em some more. Make 'em wonder what you're up to.....heheheh.....there is a little of the evil elf in me....... |

Hang tuff the Holidays are almost over. Some people don't understand how much we love our furbabies and know what is best for them. Have a Merry Christmas..........Cindy |
It's well within your right to train and do as you please, since you are the Mommy and YOU have to live with the consequences of any bad things that come with a few treats and no discipline. Perhaps put the crate in your own room or somewhere no one can access? I think if you are younger too, some older adults give you less respect. But be insistant on your ways, you'll be fine, and tell them when your baby is all trained and okay, then he can play with everyone! |
I'm sorry about your family. I've had the same problem. When I bought Maddie (she's 3 now) I wanted her to be well-behaved and not spoiled, but no one would listen and went out of their way to spoil her and ruin her training. >.< Now, my new puppy stays in MY room and no one is allowed to feed him, period, or play with him unless I am watching. I'm super protective of him and hiss at people who try to break the rules. LOL I can't believe your uncle doing that right in front of you! How totally rude. Good luck with family and congrats on your puppy! |
thanks all! ..... unfortunatle i no longer have a room at my parents house (i moved out 4 months ago and now my brother and his fiance are staying there).... the fiance says it is not mine anymore, it is hers, as well as my old parking spot.... ect... ect.... i am going to be super protective |
I'm glad you are no longer living at your parents house. It probably will be better for you and certainly abetter for your pup! they should get on the net and learn the proper caring for a dog. Chocolate is deadly for them, as is anything with sugar in it etc. etc. This is the first dog I haven't fed off the table. I tried with the others and everyone would say one little piece won't hurt him. My first dog, I knew nothing about and the kids would feed him candy and junk. I am ashamed to say this, because I was so dumb about it. My little Pompidou died of kidney failure at the age of 9. It was because of all the junk the kids fed him! Never again! Of course, that was 30 years ago and it was a very hard lesson! So please! Please! Stick to your guns! The dog's life depends on it! Pat |
I totally understand your frustration! Yesterday, my mother-in-law gave Bentley some turkey and we were up with him all night as he was sick and throwing up. Today, I was out shopping and I found out that while I was gone she (my mother-in-law) wasn't paying attention when she took out the garbage and Bentley snuck out and started running around the neighborhood. Luckily they don't live on a busy road and she was able to catch him. This made me so upset. I am not letting him out of my sight until we leave! |
Update: i watched toby like a hawk as best i could during hte christmas holiday at my parents house, BUT my mom got sick so i had to be IN CHARGE of the HUGE party,........ the last couple days toby has been having diareah, then solid, then he (im sorry if this is gross) poops this clear mucousy stuff  ..... anyways, im thinking someone gave him something when i wasnt looking (and when toby wasnt with me, he was in his crate in a PRIVATE ROOM, so someone went OUT OF THEIR WAY to to give him a little "treat") ...... i laid down teh rules pretty damn clear when everyone walked into that house, so why in the hell did they not listen???? It just makes me so upset because what they think is a "treat" actually encourages him to BEG, to get SICK, to be a general NUISANCE!!! I am trying to train him and they are RUINING ANY PROGRESS I HAVE MADE!!!!!..... i had pretty well trained not to beg for food, and now he is JUMPING IN MY LAP EVERY TIME I HAVE A PLATE!!!! Thank you sooooooooo much for listening to my ranting and raving, i just feel very passionatly that people should ask before giving anything to my dog, and even touching him for that matter  now im gunna have to RE-TRAIN him :( |
This could all be due to a change in water, too. Or even coccidiosis. I would take a fecal sample to your vet to be sure. |
When do you go home? Can't be soon enouogh if you ask me. Turkey is sooooo bad for dogs. I can't believe anyone would give them any. It always gives them diarehha. Get with the pumpkin immediately. They can go into shock because of dehydration pretty easy. I'd take her off all food and then gradually add just a little of her normal stuff tomorrow and then a little more the next day if it is okay. This can be serious. You must just be furious! I know I would be. Good Luck! Bentley"s Mom! I know how you feel. My husband went out to get the mail, and Snoodles snuck out and when he opened the gate, he must of ran by him. We didn't even know he was missing. Someone knocked on my door and asked if I had a puppy. I almost died! They said she was running around the street a couple blocks away shaking and whining! Did I blow my lid! He is very cafeful now, but once that happens you never trust them to be alert to what's happening with the dog. I never even had his collar on him. I asked them how they knew to knock on my door and they said that they were driving around and when they saw all the rubber under my gates, they figured it might be me. WAS I LUCKY, or what? It could have been a tragic end, but I was just lucky! Pat |
my dogs get turkey every year at thanks giving they love it knock on wood have never got sick my vet never told me that about turkey she gives her dog too |
