Layla is having a hard time adjusting While Layla just LOVES Charlie the cat, she is having a hard time adjusting. I think it is really stressing her out. She sleeps most of the day (which isn't ALL That new.. but normally she perks up at night time) now all she wants is to be on someone's lap.. which is not like her at all.... she will get off to go see the cat sometimes but otherwise is right back on someone's lap... she is very needy... and threw up this morning :( is there anything i can do to make this easier for her??? she accidentily ate some cat food today.. maybe 1 -2 pieces... is this ok??? |

I have a friend who puts her cats food on top of the dryer so the dog doesn't get at it. Maybe you could put it up where Layla can't get it. Layla is just going thru what a lot of only "child" fur-babies go thru. She just doesn't know what her routine is now that it's out of sync. She's just going on the laps because it's a security blanket that she is use to. She will be just fine. ;) |

awwww she's used to being the "only child". Jake went through this when we first brought Jackson home, but he was fine in a couple days. He actually got mad at me and wouldn't have anything to do with me, yet he wasn't mad at my husband.....even though we BOTH went to pick Jackson up and took Jake with us! But, I guess since he's such a mommy's boy, he had to show me that he didn't approve. Now he and Jackson are best buddies! Try to make a time where you can be alone with her and give her lots of attention and maybe a new little toy or something. She'll come around. |
A little bit of cat food won't hurt her, but I wouldn't let her have a lot. She's probably just a little jealous with someone in her home. She'll be ok. |
hope she feels well soon |
Cat food won't hurt her :) Maybe she just isn't feeling well today and its not anything to do with the kitty visiting. I'm sure when she feels better she'll be happy to have a playmate for awhile. Maybe its just an upset tummy. Mine do that every so often. |
Is there any chance that Charlie could scratch her with his claws or his at her? That is what I am afraid of with cats. Yorkies are so sensitive. |
Aww....it may take some time but they will be the best of friends. My cat Simba and Mindy took only a few days to mesh but when Bear came along Simba stayed far away for at least 3 weeks and then suddenly he started to want to play again. Now he gets attacked by both Mindy and Bear. I keep Simba's food on a stool high enough that the pups can't get at it. Works great! Good luck! |
I bet she isn't feeling well today and she is also hanging out on your lap to make sure she is the one getting the attention :) It will take some time but she will be ok. The cat food won't harm her, it may upset her tummy if she has a sensitive belly with diet changes tho. |
I didn't know you got a cat! Congrats! I'm sure Layla will come around...it just takes a while. Just give her lots of kisses and special attention! |
Time will make the biggest difference -- they will come to an equal ground, learn to love one another or at least tolerate each other. I'm wondering if there isn't something else going on, especially since she got sick - I would wonder about her health. Don't worry about a bit of cat food - mine would eat it every chance they could get if it was accessible  - it's not th ebest for them |
It is okay for dogs to eat cat food but cats should not eat dog food. Cat need triptaphan (may have spelled wrong) to be healthy. Generally cat food is higher in protein than dog food. Dogs love meat and protein = meat so cat food smells and tastes good to them. Cozy is always getting into the cat food and other than bad breath have never suffered any ill effects such as diahrrea or vomiting. Vet said it is okay if dog eats in cat food but don't encourage it. |

good luck... |
A little bit of cat food won't do her any harm at all. But perhaps feed him away from Layla so she does not get too much. Poor Layla, she will adjust, she's probably just not used to having to share her Mommy. |

I am sure Layla will be fine with eating just a bit of the cat food, but from now on make sure the food stays away. And I am sure they will be ok together soon, altho it took my cats and dogs almost a year to get used to eachother. Even now, if Boo-Boo barks, Tina(the cat) goes 100 miles through that cat flap...LOL |

ahhhh poor thing! I hope she feels better soon. Probably she's in your lap a lot to show the cat that your lap is hers :) . She might like the cat, but this little furryballs are very territorial. |
