Yorkshire or Yorksure? I know, funny question. Maybe people from the UK can answer this. How is it supposed to be pronounced? Yorkshire or Yorksure? |
I say Yorkshire, but I'm from the US. I hope you get your answer. |

LOL, I guess I don't need an answer. I'm just curious. I always hear tv shows that are taped from the UK and when they say the name of one of their towns, they say (for example) Buckingham"sure" not Buckingham"shire". I actually think Yorksure is correct. |

Completely depends on where in the UK they are, different areas of the country have different accents and pronunciation. Just like people in new york don't speak the same way as those in texas. Some people say yorksheer, yorkshur, yorkshire, yorksha, yorksure, there is probably more. Myself, i'm from the midlands and I kinda say yorkshur. |

I say it yorkshur or yorksure (there's no difference, right?). I've actually never heard it said york-shire and I was surprised that's how so many of you say it. Maybe it's a regional thing in the US also? |

Well, the English (England) accent makes thing sound differently, just like it is with other those who have Chinese, East Indian, Russian, Italian, Spanish, French, etc. accents. A Chinese person would probably put emphasis on a different vowel/syllable than an Italian. England accents sounds differently, but they don't spell it differently. It's not actually "Yorkshure," it's still 'YorkSHIRE.' They just don't say it the same way as us, but it's still spelled "YORKSHIRE" all over the world, regardless of where you're from. When you hear people from England say "knickers," (underwear) it sounds like they are saying "knickas." But it's not spelled "knickas," it's 'Knickers.' Hope that helps!!! |
