Puppy coat
 
I know there are many questions about a yorkie's coat, but I just have one more:) When does a puppy's coat turn into the texture it will have as an adult?

the coat can start changing at 4 months old. You'll notice the hair on the top of the head start changing first. sometimes it looks like their going bald because it looks white. the texture starts to change too, but sometimes the puppy fuzz makes the adult coat difficult to groom so a hair cut is in order.

Thanks! I read earlier that the head changes first in color, but I wasn't sure about coat texture too. Georgia's hair is changing color on top of her head, and this is a silkier texture. It does look thinner there now that I look at it! The rest of her hair is just unruly! She's 5 months old and hasn't been to the groomer yet. I need to take her soon, but I've heard so many horror stories! I want a groomer that's used to working with yorkies. I try to brush her daily (she hates it!) or every other day. The rest of her hair is still pretty wavy and very thick and soft. Thanks for your help!

Cute puppy!!! I would do my homework on groomers!!! I worked with one of those "horror stories"!!! Its soooooooooo easy to do it yourself!!!!! It costs quite a bit up front to buy the grooming tools, but its well worth it and is less expensive in the long run over the life of the puppy. And, it gives you quality time with your baby!!!!! From start to finish, it takes about 20 to 30 minutes to groom your Yorkie. (not a show groom, just a pet groom) With a quick run over with a comb everyday, you will only need to bath about every 2 to 3 weeks. As the hair gets longer, every 10 days or so. Maybe a mobile groomer would be better as you could watch what is going on.(if you dont want to do it yourself)

I noticed a big change after I got Penny's first hair cut at about 5 months.
