Too Big for Carrier My baby Bailey is going to be a big boy - about 6-8 lbs fully grown. My question is - is he going to be too big for a carrier? Will I look goofy with such a big dog in a stylish carrier? Just wondering....b/c if he will, I will just have him walk with me everywhere :-) |
I don't think you will look silly. It depends on how big the carrier is and what kind. I have a 7 pounder that fits nicely in my LV carrier. I have to say though, it does get heavy. I sometimes I walk her and have my little 2 stay in the carrier. Goodluck on whatever choice you make! |

Needless to say Jazzie walks! It's good for her too! |
My yorkie is almost 6 lbs and she loves her carriers.I can always take her out for a while and let her walk. There are loads of really nice carriers these days that would easily fit dogs up to 8lbs.:) :) :) |
coco is 6-7pounds and she is always in a carrier she loves it and its not to heavy for me lol but then again i use her carrier as a purse to so thats all i end up carrying |
I don't think he'll be too big. Lady is close to eight pounds and fits nicely in a larger carrier. Of course, it's obvious you have a dog carrier when they are that size. No sneaking them in places in a tiny purse-like carrier like you can with the tinier ones. Another alternative for the larger dogs is a stroller. I'm hoping Santa Claus drops off a pink one at my house this Christmas! :D |
Carriers are great! My Yorkies are also on the teapot side of the chart.... and they LOVE to be carried in a carrier. We use a Sherpa carrier for Seymour (hubby will carry him in this one... with no issues). I use a Vera Bradley carrier for Shelby. It is really pretty and there is also enough room for my shopping items ($$, license, checkbook, etc.) in the side pocket. |
I like the stroller. Sometimes even a 4# dog in a carrier is too heavy. |
I don't know stylish of one you will find (most I've seen are pretty small), but probably perfect for your baby's size. I have a black soft-sider carrier that I use for Ozzie. Since he weighs more than 14 pounds, I had to sacrifice stylish for practicality. He hates it, but it works pretty well. I just sling it over my shoulder since it's no heavier than my computer bag/briefcase since it is always stuffed with so many files and other stuff besides the computer! |
Lacy's 7lbs and I've carried her in a carrier. She does get heavy after awhile though. I prefer to use my stroller |
Pipers 6 pounds and he looks fine in his carrier, which he loves to see me take out. He knows when it comes out he's going bye bye. |
Belle is 7 lbs and she still fits in a carrier... we don't have problems at all, and don't look silly bc of her size |
and PS: 6-8 lbs is not that big, he'll still be a pretty small dog :) |
