Spaying...Question So if you read my post about Belle's heat cycle...here's the follow up: So i'm saving up to get her spayed it's been named the "Get Bellie Spayed Fund" I have a question though: For those of you with Yorkie girls; once you got them spayed did their behavior change? how so? Thanks for your help! |
Tilly didn't change any once she was spayed. She is still Tilly. :) |
i'm glad to hear that, i'm a little scared she'll be idk...maybe less spunky or something =/ i want her to stay just the way she is... :D |
Tilly was never very playful. She doesn't like to play with toys and we always call her an old lady because all she does is sit on the couch all day. She still follows me around and gets excited when we go places. I was afraid too with getting her spayed. She did great! The next day she was pretty much back to normal. |
that's good, Belle loves to play with toys... every time i go to the pet store she gets a new one =/ lol... but i think i'll do it over winter break so that i can take a few days off of work to take care of her after the surgery... how did you do throughout the surgery?:confused: i'm kinda scared about it...i know its pretty routine... but she's my baby;) |

unless something going wrong during the surgery (which there is a low chance of if you have an experience vet since this is the most common surgery for a general practice) you should see no behavioral changes in your pup. Mine was up and playing the very next day. |
thank you very much for the encouraging words... and answers... since she's still in heat she won't be getting surgery for about a month... which works out perfect for winter break... so i'll let everyone know how it goes when it goes--- :) thanks! |

Bella's already had two heat cycles, right? By getting her spayed before she has her third cycle, you can still reduce her risk of mammary cancer to 26%. If she has that third cycle, her risk of cancer probably won't be reduced by spaying her. So save, save, save! :) If a female dog is spayed before her first heat cycle, her risk of developing breast cancer is only 0.05%. If she is spayed after having only one heat cycle, her risk of breast cancer jumps to 8%. If she is spayed after her second heat cycle, that risk becomes 26%... that's more than 1 in 4! Spaying a dog after her third heat cycle may reduce the risk of mammary carcinoma (breast cancer) but not appreciably. The take-home message: intact female dogs are 50 times more likely to get breast cancer than a dog spayed prior to her first heat cycle. Ogilvie, Moore.
