HELP with grooming PLEASE!!!! Ok i just groomed Lilly for the first time (poor girl) my problem is her bangs/top knot. They hang down in front of her eyes so bad so I put them up but she takes the hair tie out right away. I dont want to cut them but i think i have too and if so how?!?!?! Or do i just wait till they grow out and fall to the side???!?!?! Thanks for your help... |

Schatzie is pretty much at that "bangs" stage also. I don't always use a top knot bow as it seems harsh on her hair. So when I blow dry her I blow her bangs back and have even used a little gel. It works for about a day but then her bangs fall again. :D It's a patience game with me and one day I do realize her hair will be more managable. If I'm lucky, maybe by her 2nd birthday, LOL. :D |
its way too hot here.. and i can tell it was irritating Ginger a lot.. and she didn't like the Ideas of bows in her hair anyways.. so I cut her topknot.. and omg she's sooo cute!! (well not like she wasn't before! but i can seeee her beautiful eyes now) I groom my dogs myself.. but I wanted the Groomer to fix my mistakes lol.. and she did a great job!! :D I also tried to comb it back and put gel in it.. but my other two would always sniff Ginger and either lick the gel off.. or bite at her head  lol.. anywho best of luck with whichever you decide! |
1 Attachment(s) Don't cut it if you ever want it to stay up... Bunny is in that stage now... she hates her hair being in a topknot, but even though her bangs start falling out two seconds after I put it up, I want her to get used to it while she is a puppy. These pics were taken right after I put her 4th of July bow in and look at it!!! |
2 Attachment(s) Baby's hair is getting pretty long in the front, if I don't tie it up it will hang straight in her eyes no matter what. I cannot get it to fall to the sides. Good luck, with lots of practice your pup will get used to the tie in her hair. Make sure you don't make it too tight, then it is for sure on its way out! Also, I attached a picture of Baby's hair without a bow and with one. Most of the time we just put a rubber band in her hair without a bow, it's just easier. |
Another thing... are you using little latex bands like they have at the orthodontist office to put her hair back? If not, you should try them bc that helps they stay in and not to break the hair and also make sure when you take her topknot out that you just cut it bc you will break the hair by trying to pull the band out of it and this will just make it seem to take longer for her bangs to grow bc you may be breaking the hair. Most of the time I just put a colored band in he hair bc the bows come out too easily bc her hair is too short, but with the colors, it still looks cute! You can get colored bands here: https://www.laineeltd.com/cgi-bin/la...ds?LqpuTQzf;;8 |
I have found that by using the little small terry cloth like scrunchies, Mia does not seem to try and pull it our as much. I buy them at WalMart in the hair accesories. They are made by Goody and they are about a 1" circle. They are really soft and they don't damage the hair. They do kinda slide out a little easier than the latex bands, but they are a really good training aid to get them use to the top knot. They are really cheap too. You get 24 in various colors for like $1 or so. Grant it, they are not as cute as bows, but they do serve they purpose of keeping the hair out of their eyes. I also like the fact that when you take it down at bed time, there is no pulling and tugging at the hair which breaks it. They just slide right out. I will try and get a picture of Mia in one tomorow, and I will post it then. |
3 Attachment(s) Here are the pictures of the small soft scrunchies. As you can see, they are not quite as cute as bows but they really do work well to keep bangs out of the eyes and they do not break the hair. |
Oh, Kim, she is tooooo cute! Before Annie went to the Rainbow Bridge I used those little terry scrunchies, too. They're great for a "quick-do". Did Mia come from TX? |

Thanks, Kim. They're both beautiful and remind me so much of my Annie. You're so lucky to have them! Annnd it goes without saying how blessed they are to have picked *you* for their mommy! :) |
We use lots of scrunchies too - they seem to stay in pretty good and aren't difficult to remove - usually the hair will stay in that halfway stage it seems forever - but it WILL grow - good luck...loved the pics on this thread ! |
I found a great alternative to rubber bands and clips. Little banana clips, made for little kids, has teeth on both side, and is spring loaded. You press both sides , the clip opens, and then put the hair in the clip then release,it stays in great and does not come out! I found these at Walmart in the hair brush section. I love bows, but this seems to work really well, and they are easy to use. They make them in several small sizes too. |
