Potty while walking That Sammy is such a pain (but I love him!) The past few times I take him on a walk, he starts to potty as we are walking, Afgter it happened the first two times, I try to make him go where he always does (on the newspaper) and he never wants to and as soon as we get like 4 houses down, he starts to potty. I hate it. there really is no place for me to take the dog on a walk for him to go potty, and I never trained him to go outside. Why is he doing this and what do you think I can try to stop this behavior? Mari |
If by potty, you mean poop...just take a plastic bag with you to pick it up with when he goes. It's a lot more natural for a dog to poop and pee outside than inside so I'm sure that's why he's going outside. I'd just let him do his business |
It's more natural for animals to go outside instead of soiling their home. Plus, the walk stimulates their bowels. I always carry poop bags with me on walks. I buy poop bags from the dollar store. They're 60 for a dollar and they're even scented! In the beginning, I use to get totally grossed out picking up poop. Now that I'm use to it, it's not that bad. I'd take picking up dog poop over cleaning a litter box or changing a diaper any day, lol. |
You can't expect him to hold it on a walk. Mine pee at least twice and Loki will always poop even if he had JUST gone in the yard. To your dog, the whole point of the walk is to sniff things and pee and poop on stuff. That's why we carry 2-ply poop bags. They even come in pink! Every dog owner has to do this, little dogs are no exception. :D Ha I have no idea why it decided to put lips in the title?? |

Thanks everyone, It does make sense that he'd want to go outside than inside. And I did mean poop, sorry about that. I don't get grossed out be having to clean it up, And I didn't know that walking stimulated the bowels, PS our walk is 1/2 mile. |
