I JUST RECENTLY BOUGHT THE CUTEST LITTLE MICKEY MOUSE PLAY PEN AT A YARD SALE FOR $5.00 (JUST LIKE NEW) THIS ONE DOES HAVE THE MESH SIDES AND I WANTED TO KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE USES ONE FOR THEIR NEW PUPPIES . I WAS THINKING ABOUT USING IT ONLY WHEN WE WERE BUSY AND COULD'NT KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON HER. I WILL BE GETTING CHLOE ROSE VERY SOON AND I WANT TO BE SURE THIS WOULD BE SAFE FOR HER. ALSO, COULD I PUT A WEE PAD AT ONE END AND HER BLANKET AND TOYS AT THE OTHER END. THANKS....

I never used a playpen, I used an ex pen. But I know a lot of people use the playpens.

Just make sure that when you put her in there that she doesnt have anything she can choke on or get hung up on. Basically make sure she's "naked"... no bows or hair clips, no clothes, no collar and no harness.

I use a play pen while camping and I have one in the garage for her- just for when we are too busy to give her undivided attention. She is right by us then and she usually sleeps. I only use her crate when we are gone and at night to sleep. She has never fussed about either.

First, congrats on your new expected baby. AND, as for the playpen I know many people who use them. I also know of many people who have called and said "My Yorkie baby fell out of the playpen and I think her leg is broken". Next call is, "we went to the vet and her/his leg is in a cast." What I am saying is there are Ying and yangs to every situation so you have to anticipate the problems. Can your baby climb the net to the top and fall out? If "yes" how do you prevent that? A cover of some sort. I honestly thank God that I never had a climber-Of course, I am at home 24/7 and can correct any such behavior before it gets started or at least, before it becomes a habit.
Many years ago I bought a toy Poodle and he was a total neurotic. The vet had put him on meds and he even told me this boy was suicidal and would not grow up to adulthood. I was DETERMINED to prove him wrong so I bought a mesh playpen. That boy climbed out. I asked the vet what to do and he was very explicit in his instructions. I was equally explicit in following. Only problem is, we forgot to tell the puppy. So, he climbed up a little ways on the mesh playpen and the leash that the vet very carefully recommended was in the prpoper place-attached to the very corner of the playpen and shortened so he could not reach the top. He didn't need to-he chewed a hole thru the net and fell thru and hanged himself on the very leash that was supposed to protect him. Accidents can and do happen and it is soooooo sad.
Mt point is-you have to look at every angle and protect your baby.

Jeez Rini! That is so sad about that poodle!

I have a Super Xpen, which I bought at Toys R Us, but also available at Petsmart. There is plenty of room for a small fleece bed, her blanket, toys, water and food bowl, and a piddle station that I put away from her bed and food. There are additional panels you can also purchase to make it larger. This has worked well for us.

Yep, I love those wire X-pens. My dogs don't climb out of them and I can put 7 in at one time to sleep or in a double pen for the day, if I am, say the hospital. I don't know why they don't climb out but they don't. Now, watch, they are like human kids-BRAG ON THEM AND THEY SET OUT TO PROVE YOU WRONG!!

Muffin wasn't a climber; she was a little girl. Kacee, my little tomboy, is a climber. Believe me, she was climbing at six weeks of age! :eek: She didn't need any help getting up the five or six-inch step (carpeted) to get onto the flat part to come in the back door. She just climbed up it. She used those little toes and toenails to get her grip and went to town! :D So, do be careful. Considering that the first way they get around is wiggling and crawling, it isn't surprising that they climb.

Neither of mine were climbers or jumpers. Well, Bunny tried to jump, but she was more like a dancing bear and just walked on her back feet.

Joy I would make sure that she doesnt try to jump out before I left her unattended just to be safe. All it takes is one time for something serious or fatal to happen.. these little ones are just so fragile!
