Litter Box Training Anyone out there tried litter box training their Yorkie? I live in a cold climate and lots of snow so am considering litter box training with pee pads when I my puppy arrives.. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.. |
Welcome to yt, I tried the litter box with Rockie and he was just not adjusting to it. All the furbabies are different you can try it. If it does not work you can use the wee wee pads. Good luck.:animal36 :littleang |
I tried this too. didn't work for us either. I Don't think I knew how do really train her to use the litter pan. We trained for outside. I would like too know how to train for the box. That would be great!!! :) |
My two youngest are litter trained. We use Second Nature litter. I read the instructions on the bag, and I went to the web site. The site has really good info and tips on it. I would say that it is not much different than any other potty method. Patience and consistency is the key. I live in a cold climate too, and this just seemed to be the best method for us. I did try the pads, and oh my, it was shred city with those:D . Good luck to you, I will try to post the link to the web site, maybe you could read about it before you decide. http://www.doglitter.com/Getpage.asp...2680&T=4152873 |
My little girl will be 5 months old on Sunday and is trained to go in a litter box on a pee-pad. I started it the day we brought her home and she does great with it. |
Thanks so much for replies... I really want to give it a try... I also want to be able to let her go out when it is nice. I think by teaching her a command she should be able to adapt to both.. but in the beginning will be litter box training her... |
Welcome to YT!!! |
Done this for years I have 4 dogs (just one Yorkie right now); they are all trained to wee wee pads and do great. If you start training your puppy to the pads from the start, you'll have no problem. And another hint -- don't buy the wee wee pads from the pet store -- just use the "underpads" that are made for use by humans. They were great and are the same thing. I buy mine by the case at Sam's Club but they also carry them at WalMart and any drugstore. Good luck!! |
I have been think about this for awhile. Thank you for the post |
My boyz are trained to use a litter pan with a pad inside but they both go outside too. Now that I've brought the girls home I'm training them with the litter pan and a wee pad. They're almost 9 weeks old and both of them are using it consistantly. However, they are in their puppy pen most of the time right now...when they're out playing I put a few pads down that they use as long as they get there in time! I love the litter pan with a pad inside...it protects the floor underneath and keeps them from playing with, or tearing up, the wee pads. I've had no trouble training them to use the litter pan or to transition them to go outside. Good luck with your new baby. |
