my Charmin is eating used TP.. : P Ok so my little baby's name is Charmin (like the TP), she is about 10wks old and *surprise* she likes to eat the toilet paper out of my trashcan. i am asleep when she does this and i don’t know what to do. when I get up, she has made snow on my carpet. i put a lid on the trashcan but i caught her moving it with her nose when i was in the shower. i work third shift from 12-4 so i can be gone for up to 6 hours. she sleeps while i'm gone and is ready to play when i get home. i have a hard time keeping her in her create when im asleep because she whines and yips until i let her out. she isnt a third shift sleeper and i feel bad keeping her in her tent until i get up. also she potties in the house. i take her everywhere i go and when i go to me mom's to visit she will potty outside with no problem. my boyfriend has a yorkie so i take mine over there to get some social interaction and she will potty outside at their house too if we take her out regularly but she will not potty outside of my apartment. she just thinks its play time. i dont get it? i've tried allot of things to train her because i really don’t want her to be an untrained brat so please some one help!!!! |
hahaha sorry, but I couldn't help but chuckle that your baby's name is Charmin and it likes eating used toilet paper?!?! this post just made my day! anyway, if she is eating used TP, you probably still have to keep her under a lot of supervision (is she still a young pup)? maybe when you can't supervise her, she should be in a larger play pen and not getting a free rein of the house yet...i'm not sure what else...i hope someone else has better suggestions! good luck! |
put the trash can up on the sink or in the tub if she's still little:confused: |
We solved that problem by getting a trash can with a lid for the bathroom. |
Am I the only one wondering why used TP is not in the T????  What am I missing here??? |
Welcome to YT. Mine have a fascintion with toilet paper and any other type of paper they can find. Sorry I can't help you with the potty problem. Does she have free run of the yard when she's at your moms and boyfriends? Maybe if you have to keep her on a harness at home she doesn't like it. |

Aaaah. That used. I am relieved. Okay, how about not flushing the T until the T needs flushing? |
since she's only 10 weeks old i wouldn't be giving her free reign of the house while your sleeping. I would put her in her crate in another room of the apt and ignore her. Or you can buy an ex-pen which is bigger then a crate but still confining to leave her in when you cannot watch her. Also close the bathroom door and any other door to rooms you don't want her in. |
Welcome to YT!!!:welcome4: i have a paper shredder too. You can do a search and you will find many post about yorkies and their paper shredding... But The fact that your baby's name is Charmin!!! :sidesplt: |
I am soooo glad someone else asked why the tp isnt in the toilet, i was thinking eeeuuuwwwwww  |

My solution would be to flush the paper or put the trash can on the counter. |
Welcome to YT!!! |
Bianca is a TP stealer and eater. I have to keep it off the holder and put up or she will roll it all the way out into the hallway. I feel like the apartment got TP'ed!! LOL welcome to YT! |
Welcome to YT!!!:welcome4: Love the name Charmin!!! Very cute!!! I miss the days the house would get TPed. Ours are not pups anymore:( |
I guess Rockie is not the only one who loves tp.:p I have had to move so much around for him, furbabies find so much to get into.:p Welcome to yt. :littleang |
Welcome to YT! Mine also love TP, especially Pinky. Potty training is difficult for Yorkies be patient and know that they do not have enough bladder control until about 4 months old. It take lots of patience and practice while teaching them. Charmin is a such a cute name. Good luck to you. |

First, welcome to YT! I love the name Charmin! Ginger is my TP eater. No, she does not run around the house spreading tp like so many others, she just grabs as big a chunk as she can and eats, eats, eats. She has been known to devour an entire roll of tp in moments...so you can imagine our need to tp proof our house. Not just tp, paper towels, napkins, etc. We've had to replace all of our trashcans with lidded ones. The metal ones are great and have heavy lids. We've had to remove all of our toilet paper rolls from the wall holders. Ours are stacked in decorative containers (the kind you usually use for the "extra" rolls). Our containers must have the lids on tight. She's learned to balance on her hind legs and suck a roll of tp out withOUT tipping the holder. When we visit family they all know to keep their bathroom doors closed. When people visit us, we hang their coats and ask them to set their purses, etc., up. She's been known to sneak a tissue out of a visitors purse. I've tried everything I can think of, everything my trainer could think of. She's just a toilet paper hound. So, I hope that your little one, like so many others, grows out of it. If not, you'll at least know you aren't alone. Good luck! |
Mine do that too with the bathroom trashcan, so i always have to close the door tight cause Teddy also knows how to open doors |

another suggestion When Morgan was a puppy she used to shred paper that she found on the floor. So i set her up. I took a bunch of papers of all different sizes and sprayed them with bitter apple. Then i "accidentally" let them fall off the table. Morgan dove for it, picked it up, and immediately spit it out. We did this a few times and she learned real quick not to pick up things off the floor or eat paper anymore. |
oookkkkk..... thank you all very very much for all the fun and helpful feedback!!! ok so it is not nasty to leave tp in the trash can....thats what the bath room trash cans are made for...... but the nasty paper gets flushed and the other goes in the can...not a huge deal! i will not puppy prof my life for a baby dog. i love her and i put things u that will hurt her or make her sick but other than that she will just learn the rules and the rules include staying out of the trash can. but incase some of you dont know this if your home is on a septic tank you CANNOT flushanything that is not a body fuction down the toilet or the septic tank will back up into your yard and trust me that is WAY more eewwww that putting the tp in the trash can! |
