Do they have an adam's apple? After Delilah's choking scare I have been lightly tracing along her trachea and there is a area that is slightly larger than the rest...right where the neck meets the chest. Is this normal? She is not showing any signs of distress. Oh, by the way, she cheered our team on to victory!:D |
from what I could find on a search, the answer is no |
I think it is her thyroid. |

My new little guy does too. Please tell me this is normal... I'm going to really and truly freak out if it's not - we just lost our sharpei today (due to kidney failure) and I can't handle another big health issue right now!! Actually, SoCo has 2 little bumps, one right at the base and one about a finger's width above that. |
Yes it is very normal...that area is the larynx. Humans, dogs, cats, etc. all have a very similar larynx. The larynx is up closer to the head though than the chest. Here's a website that shows the parts of the larynx: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/wnor/lesson11.htm Drawing of the larynx: http://www.gbmc.org/voice/images/blu...37;20front.jpg Pictures of an actual larynx dissected out of some animal: http://webanatomy.net/histology/resp...ynx_images.jpg The thyroid glands lie on each side of the larynx |
