Eating Poo!! TJ has decided to take up a new habit, eating his own poo!! He doesn't do it if I get it up right after he goes, but if I don't catch him, he starts to eat it. It is really gross! I mean, I don't want him licking my face now! How can I train him not to do that? I tell him "NO" when I see him doing it, but that just isn't cutting it! Does anyone have any advice? |
Theres a pill you can get for them I think its called Deter. I just told Chachi no. I have cat litter boxes in the house so I had to teach him no to that. |
poo My little guy also does that, I did read a post in here to pineapple with their food, which I did, in both of my dogs food and he is still doing it. Some times he likes to throw it like a toy. He is such a sicko  I know he gets enough to eat and lord knows he has enough toys...any suggestions please help us..He knows he is not suppose to do it cos when I see him he takes off 90 miles an hour to get away from me.. |
do you get this at pet smart?? |
If you are talking about the deter I believe so. I haven't used it but have read about others using it with success. |
At BJ's you can get a large container of Accent, the MSG product that is used as a flavor inhancer. Don't make a listake and thing a meat tenderizer is the same. IT IS NOT. It can have some MSG but the purer the stuff the better. Add it to the marning food.. It is supposed to make their poo taste bad--I cannot speak to the truth in that..But, I have used the product in the past. I am not sure if it worked or if they just got tired of eating it.. I keep telling ine if I KNEW I could count on them I recycling "it" I would feed half as much..OMG, that is gross.. |
MINE DOES THE SAME THING AND I HAVE IT  I ALWAYS KNOW WHEN SHE DOES IT CAUSE I SEE THE CRUMS AND IT MAKES HER BREATH STINK : :thumbdown PEUW |

Lady eats her poo,and if she's not eating it she's playing with it.I always see it on her bed. It's not just hers, she'll take it from the other two too. She's the only one that does it.The other two just run when they see.But not Lady, she tries to beat everybody to it,like she got some kind of treat she's hiding from them. Her bed always smells like poo and I also see crumbs too.Sooo Gross, We use the powder our vet suggested,it worked when we see the poo.But most of the time we don't notice when she goes and that's when she snatches it up.Hopefully they grow out of it ;) |
I would defintely go with the Deter, you can get it at Petsmart or Petco...we used it with our girls and it worked really welll...I am pretty sure that this is a puppy thing but we wanted it to stop right away!!! Good luck with it.... |
thank you. Thanks to all of your help. We have a petsmart and petco in Muskegon so I will be shopping. |
my rosie used to do it until one day she ate it and spent the next few hours vomiting it up again now that was gross, she hasnt done it since thank god, my vet told me that some dogs do it all there life were others only do it as pups wendy and rosie :rose: |
Dogs generally pick up the bad habit of eating their own poop in the Winter because it freezes. Then they play with it or eat it like a poop sickle. It is a gross habit. They are not deprived of anything in there diet. The only way to stop this from happening is to pick up the Poop before they can get to it. As far so I know there are no pills I have ever heard of that work. I know that didn't help at all. Cause we are not always watching them every second. Wendy@newyorkies.net |
I have a question, when we first got lexi she would roll in her own poo and then we gave her deter and it stops but now she likes rabbit poo and cat poo ALOT it is so nasty andy advice? |
Just don't let her get into the cat poop put it up some where so she can't get into it. Rabbit poo I don't know that is kinda hard cause you never know where the rabbits have been. But they can get intestinal parasites from rabbit droppings. And from cat poop to if they have intestinal parasites. Just keeping them away from it is the best advise I can offer. It is just a gross habit they pick up. Wendy@newyorkies.net |
