Yes! I remember posting about different snouts and I never got an answer but just lots of people having the same question! They are all so adorable and like Vilette said.. they're all so different! I can pick Fred out of a bunch. He has a longer snout and not like a "baby doll face" that Little Mia has. But, to me, he's still very desirable! :p |
It's the same with humans. They have different bone structures. some yorkies will have flat faces, some with a skinny snout, some with a long snout. Some will have deep set eyes, some will have buggy eyes. It's all in the breeding and genetics. |
Teddy Bear vs. Baby Doll 2 Attachment(s) I have a question. I know what a "teddy bear" face looks like- a teddy bear, but what is the difference between "teddy bear" and "baby doll" look? You hear and see these descriptions all the time. I just want to see what the difference really is. I consider Abby as having a "baby doll" face. Am I right? Post pictures of both if you have them. I always refer to my babies as having the teddy bear look, well, because they look like little teddies. |
I agree with everyone that said its the genetics. I like a short nose so when I was looking for mine I told the breeder I got Tino from that I wanted a puppy that looked like a little monkey! When I was looking for Bunny, I started looking at different breeder's websites. When I saw Bunny's breeder's site, I noticed that almost all of her show dogs had a nice short snout, so I knew that this is what was in her lines and when I spoke with her I told her that I wanted a Yorkie that looked like it walked into a wall! She knew exactly what I was talking about and now that Bunny is a little over 5 mos, she still has that same pushed in face! I think a lot of it is your own preference and what appeals to you. p.s. I saw that someone asked abt Brittie's pups- Mia & Emmy being related... they arent. They came from different breeders. |
Short snouts and eyes that are set closer together are generally regarded as a baby doll face. It's really all in the breeding.. some breeders choose to breed the baby doll face or teddy bear ears whereas some prefer the longer snouts. Maltese have many different looks on them too.. my Malt has a very long snout but I have seen some baby doll faced Maltese that look like little toys and nothing like my little guy. It does seem that the baby faced Maltese tend to do better in the show ring than the longer snouted ones. I think for pets though get the face style that you like the most whether it's in or not. :D Here's a Link to a baby doll faced Maltese from the Chalet de Maltese website . |

Beth- Your girls are precious!!! |
Thanks so much. I love them soooo much!! |
I never met a Yorkie face I didn't love-some more than others. I have no idea what a "teddy bear" face looks like. It is possible that Pat does.. I have heard soft, wooly coats described as Little bears but they are talking about the soft wooly easily-matted coats that I breed away from. My boy, Jesse, that appears in my avatar, has a full sister who looked like she didn't come from either parent. I use their pics to demonstrate why a person should NOT look at a previous litter to try to see what a particular pyppy will look like. Yorkies are more like humans when it comes to looks than any other dog I know. Their area of origin might play a part. I do not know those genetics. Irish Yorkies have what I describe as coarse features. Most Yorkies from "the continent" seem to. BUT, that is providing there are no outside lines introduced.. I am NOT naming any particular as good or bad--as with almost everything--beauty is in the eye of the beholder..For that long post, I still was no help.. |
In my mind, Yorkie faces either look like little foxes or little bears. And I love foxes and bears so I'd be happy either way! |
1 Attachment(s) [QUOTE=Mystify79]Short snouts and eyes that are set closer together are generally regarded as a baby doll face. I thought it was "wider" set eyes, short snout and round face? (see attached?) So, what is a teddy bear face? |
To me the doll face have larger round eyes and the teddy bears faces have smaller a little slanted eyes. I consider my Mya to be a teddy bear faced Yorkie. Many people comment that she looks like a stuffed teddy bear. I also think the doll face have smaller ears but I am only going on what I have seen on websites and my own observations. Both looks are very endearing. I have yet to see an ugly Yorkie! |
