Kennel Guilt I've got to put my babies in a kennel over Thanksgiving, which I hate. Five yorkie-less days because they won't let me pick them up until Monday. Apparently, the holiday lasts Wednesday through Sunday for most of the kennels in Georgia. What is everyone else, who has to travel, doing with their puppies over the holiday?:( <div style="margin:2px;text-align:center;width:140px;" id="DogsterBadge"><script src="http://badge.dogster.com/2/?pet_ids=658174&color=b&uid=526111" language="javascript"></script><a href="http://www.dogster.com" class="st" style="font:normal 9px/145% Arial,sans-serif;text-decoration:none;color:#999;" title="Dogster.com">Join the Dogster community</a></div> <div style="margin:2px;text-align:center;width:140px;" id="DogsterBadge"><script src="http://badge.dogster.com/2/?pet_ids=658709&color=b&uid=526111" language="javascript"></script><a href="http://www.dogster.com" class="st" style="font:normal 9px/145% Arial,sans-serif;text-decoration:none;color:#999;" title="Dogster.com">Join the Dogster community</a></div> |
Welcome to YT!! We're going to my moms mom for thanksgiving lunch and I'm taking Cody James with me. and then we come back to my apt and eat my moms cooking!! |
You're so lucky! I wish I could take mine with, but we're going too far away. Hope you have a happy Turkey Day! |
Aw, i'm sorry you'll have five yorkie-less days. Fortunately for me i'm cooking for myself, my hubby and my dad. We usually travel but can't this year because of hubby's new job....unfortunately for all i've never made a turkey  and hope it all goes well!!!! haha |
Happy Thanksgiving. I am cooking and everyone coming to Our house |
When we travel our babies go with us. How far will you be travelling and are your babies not welcome where you're going? |
Welcome to YT. I'm sorry you'll be missing your babies. Just think how happy they'll be to see you. |
I don't like that kennel. :( I couldn't stand five days without Miss K. I'd go nuts. Isn't there someone you can leave them with? |
I'm sure you miss your babies! Luckily, Bella is with us for the holiday! We were without her for a week earlier in November and we missed her so much! She stayed with my brother, but he took her to doggie day care a few days to get some exercise and she loved it!!! They have a little group of Yorkies, chihuahua, and maltese, etc that play together during the day. I noticed you were from Georgia. Where abouts? Close to Atlanta? Welcome to YT!!! |
Sorry to hear you're not going to be with family this year. I just moved to Georgia with my hubby cause of his new job, too. We're having an Anti-Turkey Day with some new friends that moved to the same state. I hope your turkey turns out golden and delish! Good luck roasting! |
I hope your cooking for your family goes well! Happy Thanksgiving! |
We're going four hours away, and we weren't sure how to ask if they'd be welcome and didn't want to impose. |
Thanks! You're right. It will be lots of fun to see them again. |
Sevengirl, We live right around Lawrenceville and I'm taking the puppies to a vet's kennel in Buford. I don't love them, but they were the cleanest place I could find in the area. I saw you were around the Duluth area. From what I've seen of the area, it is a lovely city. Hope we get rain tonight! Nice to meet you! |

Welcome to YT! Can't someone baby sit them instead? There's many ppl here from Georgia. I hope you can find someone, i can never leave my babies in a kennel. Mine will be here with me and the fam. Good luck! |
One of the things I hate most about kennels is all their strange rules - can't pick up on Sunday is so common & one more way they get you for money. I have only boarded the yorkies twice - both times when I was traveling. The kennel we went charged an extra half-day fee anytime you didn't pick up the dogs until 1 pm or later -- well, guess what time they opened on Sunday?? Yep, 1 pm - so automatically they got an extra halfday payment. I would ask first, if the answer is yes you can bring them, you can skip the kennel & if it's no, at least you have a back up. I was suppose to be in Atlanta for Thanksgiving, but that didn't happen and I'm so sad. Enjoy your day with family |
We've only boarded once, when we went to disney, they have a kennel right outside the park, i guess it's not really boarding... we came to see her twice during the day to play with her and take her for a walk and such... she got to meet a few other Yorkies that she played with while we were there... i would hate to have to go w/o her for long, i left for a weekend (my mom kept her) and i was missing her so so much i hope your thanksgiving is as joyful as it can (considering) and i would ask if your yorkies are welcome... you never know!! |
Since we had a new litter 3 weeks ago, we went out for a quick bite. In past years, we took team furry with us.... Welcome to YT; maybe next year will be better. |
Luckily, I am a at home petsitter along with the groomer I work with. haha So if I have to go out of town and I can't take my dogs (which rarely do I not take them wherever I go) I send them to her house. Or their Godmomma or Grandparents house since they all live in town. haha I would never under any circumstance kennel my dogs anywhere that wasn't in home with someone I know. I hear too many horror stories and have to shave down way too many dogs after having their very upset owners bringing them to us after kenneling them and seeing house whoever took care of them just didn't ever take a brush to their coats. And it's just not fair for them to spend 24/7 in a crate. Maybe my guys are overly spoiled, but I am very firmly anti-kennels. lol |
