boys Okay, so I know similar threads have been posted, but I need reassurance from you ladies. I'm about to get a male puppy, he is so sweet and cute and I'm really excited! However I have only ever owned male dogs ( 2- one growing up and one 4 years ago, he ran away and I never could find him:( I have had pretty bad experiences with both. The first one was a poodle terrier mix my family had when I was little, he was aggressive, peed on my bed often and bit me when he was older. The second dog was a silky terrier that was sweet at first but became aggressive, started running away, humping, nipping, and GASP..masturbating:eek: Anyway, Iv'e realized in recent years that most if not all of this was my fault. First off, both these males were intact and second they were rarely exercised. If I get another pup I plan on lots of walks and spaying or nuetering ASAP. My vet will do it at 6 months. So, my question is how likely do you think it will be to have these same types of problems with a male if he gets fixed and exercised? Should I just get a female? Sorry, I know similar threads have been recently posted. Thank so much. |
I think you should maybe try a female. They don't mark like males do and are much laid back i think. Well mine are atleast. |
All dogs are different so I cant really say but I can tell you that my male is just great! he was potty trained 1-2-3 and is such a love bug.he was neutered early so he doesnt mark and still squats hes almost 1 |
I had a wonderful male yorkie for 17 years. He was sweet, loyal and affectionate. He was never aggressive, even when he went blind. He was fixed, went with my mom everywhere in the car and got tons of exercise. I will be getting a male yorkie puppy in December. As I searched for a new puppy I was determined to get a male, since I had such a wonderful childhood dog. I hope your puppy is wonderful pet for years to come. Good Luck! |
Welcome to YT!!! |
Welcome to YT. Regardless of whether you get a girl or boy if you don't exercise and pay enough attention to it you're going to have problems. If you really want a little man then I'd get one, just realize all the responsibility that comes with them. Both girls are strong willed, and are big on catching onto potty training right away. I had three. Two were completely potty trained, and one just drives me crazy. I do have to say he's trying now. Best wishes with your choice. |
boys yorkie are more loving, little girl yorkies are more alpha. dont get me wrong i love my abbey she sleeps at my side touching me every night but my boy kaycee is so sweet lets her do anything to him ,loves to give kissed and such a caring little soul. |
Welcome to YT I have a male and Deiter is just so sweet. I think it is all in how they are brought up. |
Congrats and Welcome to yt:) |
Congratulations, welcome to yt. I think its all in the personality of the dog. Goodluck. :yorkiesar |
Male dogs are fantastic if you get them neutered! |
I have two boys, and I haven't had any problems with marking or humping. Getting them neutered and making sure they have lots of toys to play with and get lots of exercise helps alot. All dogs are different, of course, but my boys are very loving and affectionate and just really sweet. They are smart and listen really well. I think you just have to make sure to spend lots of time with them and teach them. Jake was very easy to potty train, and Jackson is still very young but is doing great also. |
Congratulations!!!! and welcome to YT :welcome4: I'm of no help I only have girls...Sorry. |
If you neuter your potential new male yorkie, you'll see a lot of advantages: http://www.cuhumane.org/topics/neuter.html http://www.peteducation.com/article....&articleid=911 http://www.vospca.org/archive/spayneut.html http://www.kingcounty.gov/safety/Ani...Neutering.aspx A lot of these should solve the past problems that you mentioned with males. P.S. I'm getting a male too, and I'm definitely neutering him. Good luck!!! |
