Does he need a coat? Its starting to get pretty cold here in the northeast, and being a newbie to this small dog stuff I was wondering if I should put Teddy's coat or a sweater on him when I take him out to potty? He only stays out there long enough to do his business and runs back to the door, but I don't want him to get sick. Also, has anyone ever had problems getting their Yorkies to potty outside when there is snow on the ground? We got our first significant snowfall yesterday and he doesn't seem to want to potty in it. |
No snow here in Florida, but I'm sure someone will help you. If it's deep you might have to dig him a little pathway. |
Since its so cold I would put him on a sweater. He will probably feel more comfortable with it on in the cold weather. :yorkiesar |
mine get coats and/or sweaters |
I live in PA. Yes, mine all wear a sweater or coat outside. Mine are litter trained to potty inside. All except for Roy (13) he is outside trained. Hubby shovels him a litlle area to potty. I wish I would of known about litter when Roy was a baby. The winter is just too cold for Lewis and Flossy to be outside. I would say, stock up on sweaters if your lil one is outside potty trained, and be careful not leave them on the ground too long. The cold is really harsh the paws :animal-pa You may wanna try some boots :) |
Yes they need a sweater especially since they do not have an undercoat. Even in So. Calif. I need to put a sweater on my smallest who is 3.5 lbs. I always feel the ears and his are cold to the touch compared to his sister and mom who are twice his size. |
i don't put a coat or sweater on morgan if she's just going outside for a pee. She's out there for a minute or two and then runs back in. We got snow this morning and she was running circles in it. I had to call her 5 times to get her to come back inside. I was freezing but she wasn't bothered by it at all. When we go for walks though i put a coat on her. In the deep snow, i shovel a path in the backyard for her to go potty, but once the snow hardens she just walks on top of it. |

both my girls are around 4lb and when we go outside they do need a coat or a jacket. actually. i took them out without the coats on a few days ago and now they have a cold. took them to the vet and he said they do have the puppy cold..go figure..lol i know everyone's babies are different so i would just say you would rather be over prepared.. |
I put a sweater on Lacy if it's really cold outside (which it doesn't normally get too cold here in texas). I figured if I'm cold, then she's cold too |
my dogs get coats or parkas on when its cold out but i think the biggest thing is to get them dry and warm as fast as you can when they come bk in. |
Mine always have hoodies on in the winter and thats what they wear outside |
Thanks ! You guys are all so very helpful. I'm glad I've been erring on the side of caution, I'll keep putting on his jacket (no matter how crazy my hubby thinks I am) He still insists that they are all wearing a winter coat, why would they need another one. I can't make him understand that these little guys are different from the big dogs he's used to. Again, thanks all !! |
