Spay Info Chloe will be spayed next month, unfortunately near christmas, and I'm not sure what to expect. The vet said she will need to be resting for 10 days. I really can't imagine her resting for 10 minutes. Any stories to share, or advice to give? |
Miss Ellie was spayed a few weeks ago. If Chloe comes home that night she will be very tired and may not want to move. Ellie couldn't stand til the next morning. She had her surgery at about 3pm and didn't pee at home til the next morning. She didn't want to eat til 1AM. The next day she was very interested in food but still very out of it. It took about a week or 10 days til she was back to normal but she did pretty well after a couple days. I would highly recommend getting a baby onesie for Chloe, so she doesn't have to wear an e-collar. These work for the majority of dogs but sometimes they still get to their stitches so you might have to resort to the collar. Make sure the vet gives pain meds. Ellie was in extreme pain that night and there is no way that she was going to go without them. Ellie's incision was closed with staples and that was no fun. It is a faster way to get out of surgery but stitches seem like a better choice. Two of Ellie's staples got twisted and that was not a good thing at all. |
Layla went in around 8 when she was spayed and got to come home around 6... she did not come home with meds as our vet felt that if she could feel the pain she would be less likely to run around and rip her stiches... she seemed fine without them... Layla is very sensitive to anethesia and things like that so she was out of it for a good 4 or 5 days... she needed help standing to go pee... i had to hand feed her.... and she too wore a onesie... she was 3 lbs and wore a preemie size.... she wore it for the first 4 days or so and then just at night so she woudln't lick her stitches... and she coudln't get wet until her stitches were out aswell. She did really well. You will be a nervous wreck... guaraneteed.. i cried when i left her there.. but don' let your girl see you upset.. it iwll just make it harder for her :) we are here for ya! |
My vet keeps them overnight, but within a couple days, mine are back to normal... |
Jewels was spayed at 6 mos. She came home the night after the surgery. She was out of sorts and shaking the first eveniing and I worried about her. The next day however she was back to normal and acted like nothing had ever happened |
Coco was spayed at about 7 months. She came home the same day. Our vet gave her pain meds before she left and she did fine. She was quiet all night and into the next day, but recovered quickly therafter. I'm sure if you have her done about a week before Christmas she'll be all set to open her presents (and yours) |
