couch question What kind of fabric for a couch is the absolute best when you have dogs? I may be able to get a new one sometime soon and I don't want to keep it covered all the time. I suppose that is the only way to keep it nice, but then you can't see the couch, so why get another one?  |
I have real leather furniture i love it just wipe it down with leather cleaner & conditioner in between cleanings i wipe it down with baby wipes. It is very durrable |

We have leather too, and it's nice and durable. I wipe it down with a damp cloth, and then use leather conditioning wipes occasionally too. |
I know the answer is implied in what the last two posters said, but the dogs' nails don't hurt/scratch/mar the leather??? |
I have denim, loose fitting covers and LOVE LOVE LOVE them... I can wash them, which I do often... they always come out great. My lab loves to use the couch as her personal "space"... LOL... d |
I like leather too... but have the same question Gingersmom had... don't their nails mar the leather? Or when you use the leather conditoner, does that make them go away??? Denim would be nice... |
I have a leather couch, and they don't scratch the leather at all. Bette is about 6 and a half, 6.5 pounds and she has a set of particulary long nails, and we most definately put her on the couch and she DIGS, digs, digs, digs, digs. She doesn't scratch or mar the leather at all. So, in my own opinion, leather is the best. |
I have leather too and I love it! I think the only kind that would scratch is if you get the shiny polished leather or one with the color applied on top instead of dyed. |
I have a micro fiber couch and that works nice as well. It's soft and cleans easily with a damp wash cloth. |
Leather, makes it so easy, any dirt can just be wiped off. |
I have leather too, and when I get rid of it, I won't get another, until I don't have puppies... mine is all cracked up on top from where they've laid, and I have duct tape on it from where they've chewed..My advice would be to get something cheap(mine was over $3000), until there are def. no more puppies..:( And mine does have scratch marks on it.. |
I must be lucky then, i've had mine for just over 5 years and it is still in excellent condition :) |
Well, mine is 8 years old..I think I have pictures posted where you could see how it's done from them laying on it, and it wasn't a cheap leather sectional..:( |
2 Attachment(s) I love my cream colored leather couch, it is 8 plus years old and the dogs have always considered it THIER furniture. I clean my couch with Murphy's oil soap and then treat it with a good leather furniture conditioner. Dont' ask me which one 'cause I am out and only know it when I see the bottle. It even survived Scarlett's short rein as a couch artist and a harsh scrubbing with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser-- see pics below |
I think it all depends on what kind of finish that you have on the leather. |
