Hair color change Hi, everyonw, I hope all your babies are doing fine. I wanted to know can anyone tell me about when does the Yorkie's hair starts to change color. Sammy is 8 months now and only the top of his head has gotten light gray, he has mor brown hair on his legs now, but the rest of his body is still black. Also his whole face is really tan. Thanks |
My Ollie had about an inch of gray that we could see at the roots of his black hair at 5 months. Now at 8 months his gray has dark roots.... but our neighbors yorkie is 8 months and exactly like you described yours and he is o so cute!!!Well another neighbor has this neighbors brother and he is black with about a 1/4 th inch of gray roots...So i think they are all so different |
Lacy stayed really dark. When I got her at 10 weeks she had some silver coming through on the top of her head and gold coming through under the black on her face. By about 6 months, that silver on top of her head started to become gold. Her topknot was funny at first..the tip was black, middle was silver, and the roots were gold. Now she doesn't have any silver on her. Her back is still pretty much black, although when the light shines on it then it looks like a dark blue (but I don't really know if she's blue or black). Her face and legs are a deep tan - almost a reddish color. |
They go thru hair changing fazes in the first 2 yrs of their life, i think sometimes even after that. |
Deiter will be 1 tomorrow and he has gone thru more hair colors than someone who dyes there hair.lol But I did hear 2 yrs some times longer |
These Yorkies keep us guessing ....up until 3yrs of age as in our eldest yorkie's case!! :) |
Usually a Yorkie puppy will start to "break" color down the back, starting at the back base of the skull. When you part the hair, you will start to see a lighter blue color coming in at the roots behind the black puppy hair. Usually the sooner they "break", the lighter the blue will be. But, most will have started to break by one year of age or they will stay black and as they get older it might fade to a claricle gray. Sometimes it take 3 years for the head to totally clear to a beautiful shaded tan. |

That my baby Ava. Thank you so much. It looks like it's changing, but I was afraid it was wishful thinking. |
The only thing that changed on Sadie was her face. Her face, legs, underside and bum area are gold, her back stayed black. Lillie had white roots at 8 weeks old and black mixed with silver on her back. Lillies face is a very light silvery tan as well as her legs and underside. Her back gets more and more silver all the time. Sadie is 3 yrs old and Lillie is 17 months. |
They can change colors up to 2-3 years..I've never had one the color of ginger though..she's going to be 16 weeks this Tuesday, and her head is the whitish/silverish at the roots, and when you part her hair on her back, it's the same color there(although it's still black on the top), I've never seen any at this age with the silverish color showing at the roots so young..will be anxious to see what color she turns out to be.. |
1 Attachment(s) He may stay dark like that, but you can never tell at that age. My two are both really dark. |
When i got Tino he was tan and black, hes now 17weeks and is changing colour to tan and silver since he had hes hair cut off, |
Penny stayed a dark steel blue with beautiful gold.. I sure miss her. |
