Barkless spinning Yorkies! Has anyone heard of spinning barkless Yorkies??? When i was @ the Vet yesterday i was talking to a woman who was telling me one of her friends has 2 spinning barkless Yorkies,i say are you sure they are Yorkies oh yes says she :animal-sm  This doesnt sit right with me! so i am checking with all of you guys :aimeeyork |
That sounds odd.. Maybe that was her description of them??? I have 1 Sweet Jumping Yorkie (Missy) and one Panting Licking Yorkie (Max) :p |
Thats the wierdest thing I have ever heard of. |
I am totally lost! I thought I had heard it all, but this one takes the cake! |
spinners Well...you know I do have one..not really a barker, but a spinner. You see for some reason Shorty was a spinner. When I got his son Whiz, Shorty stopped and Whiz took over. Honestly, ask Whispermom. Vets said you see it in kennel dogs who live in small cages...these two never saw cages. In fact Whispersmom raised Whiz in her home until he was a year..he spun from a few months old. I noticed Shorty starting to spin at 6 months. They always do it when they are excited...in the yard it is the funniest sight...they would run a few steps and spin around, run and spin..Shorty is now 8 yrs with no health problems so it cannot be serious..it is their "happy" dance as we call it...and sometimes Whiz gets so excited when a girl visits, he will bark and spin around. |
Okay... i didnt get the "spinning" part. I met a retired Ch. Papillon and that is what she did. I bet it was bc she was in a small kennel when she was traveling.... Hmmmmm. |

Missy doesnt bark when she is excited but she will jump up on her back legs and does a little dance type thing, I dont think its spinning though  I'll have to pay closer attention to what exactly she is doing when I get home from work tonight ;) |
My westie spins but it is because i taught her to! lol |
Pat's boy Shorty and his son, were the funniest boys together. They kept each other company and they were the spinning Yorkies. Maybe we should have named them dradle 1 and Dradle 2.. Whiz's mom was a periodic spinner too, but that was only when I went to the back door and used the "potty" words. She would knock your feet out from under you. Whiz's mom was her sister but she didn't spin. When the boys were outside at Pat's, they would run a few steps, stop and spin and continue that til they made me dizzy.. That is not a different kind of Yorkie though. To me, it is just a behavior like jumping to be noticed, etc.. These boys might not bark when they spin but Whizzer had a mouth,,And they have all 4 feet on the floor when they start. They don't do it while standing on their back legs.. |
Thanks for sharing your story with us, sounds like they spin when excited.. How cute!! |
spinners If Rini and I didn't believe in .."what goes around, comes around'..we could have made alot of money off.."rare spinning Yorkies,$5000 " some poor fool would have fallen for it. |
I asked my vet about that once because I saw Coco do that one time. She didn't do it again but I was curious so I asked her vet. He said it could happen in dogs kept in kennels or cages, it could just be a puppy silliness thing or more seriously, it could be a neurological issue. I don't want to worry anyone but just offering my vets advice. He told me if they don't grow out of it by 8-9 months, that it should get checked. Im sure it's nothing though and I bet it's cute to watch. :p |

Sounds to me like perhaps the Yorkie's vocal cords were cut, so they spin around in circles to get the owner' attention. |
