Is he going to hurt his back or knees? He keeps jumping off the couch and it looks like it puts a strain on his back, when he lands, because his front side hits so hard and his back side whips down. I don't know how to stop him. We have tried to stop him!! We have his bed on one side of the couch, an otteman on the other and a pile of pillows in the middle. He used to hop onto them and then on the floor. But lately he hops past them onto the floor, or in between them. I am worried he is hurting himself. He is so rambunctious it seems he doesn't care about anything but getting where he wants to go as fast as he can. Anyone know if this is going to hurt him? How can I get him to stop? |
you just described exactly what wookie does... it doesn't matter if its from the 2nd story window, if he wants down, he gets down. hes a daredevil.. i havn't been able to stop him either...?? |
My little Katie FREAKS ME OUT when she leaps off her bed - she's only 2.6 lbs!!! It scares me to death! I have tried to stop her but I think she likes "flying" off the bed! |
I know someone who has steps????....it doesn't sound like this will help...but I am considering getting steps for Maximus so that he stops jumping from the couch in the process almost hitting the coffee table...that coffee table keeps gettign moved more and more and it just makes Maximus jump further and further.. |

I think I'm going to get steps for Tuckie (my little fatso!), but I think Biddy will just jump over them! YOu should see how she jumps - it makes me crazy!! |
 Oh my goodness! We taught Toto to only use her little "boosts" up and down from the sofa or bed. So far, so good! I don't know quite how you will teach them since the boosts are provided and they aren't using them. I know it is bad for their little knees, especially if they are landing on hardwood, tile, marble, etc. Sounds like you both have little wild boys! :) Good luck! ;) |

Guess we will have to gather all of our babies up and put them in a circus act, called "The Flying Yorkies". |
A flying yorkie is exactly what I have too! It's almost like living with Speedy Gonzalas...I am glad he bounces around here so happy all of the time but I too have to find a way to slow him down before he either hurts himself or I have a heart attack. He flies down the steps so fast that he has actually smacked into the wall because he was simply going too fast to make the turn and then there is the little tight rope act on the back of the couch too. As they get older do they out grow this dare devil stage? |
They do like to "fly" but it really should be limited becasue it will cause them a lot of problems as they get older with arthritus and other problems. Make steps to everything. I read that they are not supposed to jump up onto or off of anything that is higher than their shoulder!! |
how old is he? |

Two steps and a storage compartment for the comb, treats, etc! Perfect for by the couch! I turned it upside down and stapled one of those rubber web material place mats to the steps for traction, and my little Dublin started using it right away! Up and down! Whew! It isn't quite tall enough for getting up and down off of the bed, but I'm holding on to the second one because I know it will come in handy. Maybe to keep at Grandma's house? It was in the childrens accessories section and came in natural wood and painted white wood. |
He is 14 weeks ( He is growing up so fast!) and I don't know if the stairs will help. The breeder gave us a heads up to his personality and his dare devil ways and told us to keep things (step like) by the couch so he could get down, he did great until this past week. Now he jumpes around them. He will go well out of his way to be able to jump to the floor. |
I made a ramp for the bed and couch and it works really well. They both use the ramp to get on and off the couch 90% of the time. They love chasing each other up and down it. It is worth getting something so they don't have to jump. Even if they don't use it all the time, it's better than having to jump 100% of the time. |
