Don't take him to the ASPCA...there are a LOT of people that would love a little hyper yorkie puppy. |
He is a puppy, puppies act like that. Did you not know this before you got him??? |
My Reece is 15 months old and by far more hyper than my 6 month old female...not in a bad way though...he just has more energy to burn and loves to play play play...he is also a true lapdog...when I sit he sits on my lap..it dosent matter if I sit for 2 minutes or 2 hours he will be on my lap the whooooole time. Soleil on the other hand sits on the other couch and prefers not to sleep on my lap even though I have ALOT of lap lmbo..but thats ok too!! Soleil loves to get playful a few times a day with Reece but Reece is ALWAYS ready for a good play session...not sure if its a boy/girl thing or not but to me its just their personalities..and I wouldnt change a thing. I have never been bitten or attacked by either dog..puppy nibbles when they were weeks old but not after the first few times I corrected them. I also dont crate them unless I have to be out of the home..I think if they were in an x-pen while I was in the room they would go bananas too..) good luck!! |
give him time, have patience... if it doesnt work, I am in New Olreans, every week... I would be thrilled to give him a busy body home to keep him busy! Good Luck to you... d |
I've been in your shoes and a lot of people will critisize you for feeling that way and just don't let it get to you. Here is my advice: Yorkies requires lots of exercise so, try walking him until he seems tired (Cocoa can go for a mile or more). Cocoa also started calming down just recently and he is almost a year old. I think they just have so much energy and are very very playful. Once I got Daisy all they do is play and that has helped a lot too. They keep each other company and get lots of exercise by running around and wrestling. Trust me, it will get easier and if you do end up rehoming him that is ok too....it doesn't make you a bad person. ;) I wish you the best of luck!! |
Could someone take him for a walk to burn off some energy? That will help & with age....someday you will miss his puppy ways just like childrens handprints when they are gone. If not you may be able to find someone around here who likes yorkies:p and dont mind some hyperness:rolleyes: sorry you are having problems, good luck. |
st of all, stop swatting him please! Yorkies are very sensitive and should never have phisicle discipline.I am under the impression that you are at home with your pup. Instead of the xpen, how about letting him stay in the same room with you? no works wonders and treats for being a good pup will do the trick so to speak. are you walking him oe her a couple times a day and keeping a scedule/ yorkies want to please you , however they are a tad stubborn.INstead of the ASPCA as a last resort I am sure someone on YT near your home would be thrilled to give him or her a forever home. Please dont throw in the towel yet @ please keep us posted! Yes, please don't swat him on the nose when he nips you. That will only encourage his behavior. Ignore him, don't give him any attention when he does this. That is one of the ways his mother thought him about bite inhibition. He'll soon learn that all the fun stops when he nips and being ignored is the worst punishment of all for a puppy. As some of the others have said, don't feel badly if you decide that he is too much for you to handle. It is much kinder to find him a new loving home where he can be his spunky little self than to keep him and be upset with him. |
aww dont send him away. my puppy is really really hyper active too.. i just got her a few days ago. she finally got use to the house and now when shes awake she barks and attacts everything and jumps all over the place.. . today she got really hyper and i took her for a walk and she ran around and when she came home she was dead tired. she went straight to sleep. im not 100% sure if it works or not... since its only one day. good luck tho =] |

If it doesn't work out, call me, I'm drive to New Orleans to pick him up.:D I've got 4 yorkies and they all have different personalities. I also think he'll out grow it, but if he doesn't, give me a call; I'm just a couple hundred miles away!:D By the way, what's his name and do you have pictures of him? |
