Unfortunately, Myles has not been microchipped. Just got back from the my vet's office. I did leave info with them. More flyers and posters go out today. He likes the car a lot. Never knew a dog who didn't like a nice ride on a sunny day. On the way back, we got near the spot on the road near where I found him, and he began to shake, and then cried out just like a human baby does! Very startling. For those of you in the know, what does this "human baby cry" mean? Scared? Upset? Remembering where he was "dumped off" (if in fact this is the case). I am clueless. Matthew |
You are my hero!! good luck. How come I am never lucky enough to find a sweet little yorkie? :D guess that's actually a good thing though. ;) |
wow you found a yorkie puppy in the street!!!! I'm glad you're doing all this to help him, poor thing. I really doubt it would have been dumped (I can't imagine somebody doing that!) but you know, things like that can happen believe it or not. Still, it's good that you posted flyers and all that. But I don't know if I want him to go back the his "owner" if that person was careless enough to loose him. Well, you know we're here to help, so, just ask! Oh, please post some pics :) |
Thanks for the update. Your story is such a warm one no matter how it turns out. I love watching you fall in love with a Yorkie. :D I laughed out loud at the "danger" line. ;) |
Did the vet say how old he thinks Miles might be? They can usually tell by checking the teeth. From the pix you posted, I can't imagine he's a young pup - also since he seems so well housebroken. Sounds like he is very at home with you. I know you are probably getting attached to this sweet well-behaved boy - but I pray if someone is crying over their lost baby, that they will be reunited. Thank you for taking such good care of him |
I'm so glad you came to the rescue of this little yorkie! It seems so many people here are making remarks about the owners to the yorkie being irresponsible. I just wanted to say that many times, something happens in the blink of an eye that a dog gets loose and runs. There are times when they slip out the door without the owners knowledge, or times when the owner looks away for a second and their dog disappears. Maybe they are bad yorkie parents, but there could be a good exclamation for why he was running loose. If the owners are never found, you will have yourself a darling little bundle of fur to love...and he'll make you smile and laugh every day! Best wishes! |

You are so right Connie, a blink of an eye. Either way he is a cutie and looks older than 3 months and looks like he is probaby around 6-7lbs. Of course pics can be decieving. Good luck! Quote:

Yes, I think I was a bit too harsh in condemning his owners, who might be frantic right now. He could have slipped out, or gone off on an adventure and gotten lost. Hope that his rightful owners see the many things I have done and give me a call. Who knows how he ended up in my yard? We all have a story. My (inaccurate) bathroom scale tells me he weighs about 4 lbs. He is so good about potty time. Goes to the door to let me know. However, if I don't get him out within 10-15 seconds (literally), he goes to the rug in front of the washing machine and begins. One gentle tap on his behind and a stern "cut it out" gets him redirected to the door. Anyone have any insight into the "crying baby" noise he made earlier today? He also feels like he has a lump or bump on one of his ribs. He will get checked out soon by my vet, more throughly. The kitten is trying to check him out when he is sleeping, but Myles always gets one eye open, and gives the death look. Kenneth just hisses, and backs off. Then he hisses at everyone and everything. I rescued him from the woods near my house last winter, as a tiny (hold in the palm of your hand) kitten. He is a character. Thanks for all the help so far. I and Myles appreciate it. Matthew |
Kudos to you Matthew! Sounds like you have a little bundle of joy on your hands :) I don't know about the crying. except maybe as you said.... he recognized the spot and it scared him???? |
Matthew - Both of mine do the crying thing occasionally. Generally if they are scared, like when we go into the vet's office and the last time they were there they got shots. Mine also enjoy the car and definitely do recognize places we go (my mom's house, the park, the groomer) and they perk up and get excited even if we went a different way to get there. It's VERY possible he recognized something in that area and got scared, especially if he was otherwise riding fine in the car. We got our 2nd Yorkie, Sammy, when she was about a year old and she was a re-home. It took her a week or two before her personality came out as well. Just give lots of tiny treats and he will come around. You are doing a very good thing!! He looks to be the same size as Sammy (6 pounds) and she eats 1/4 cup of dry food 2 times a day. The tummy issues were very likely a combination of new food plus stress. Yorkies have sensitive stomachs. You might try an inexpensive premium dry food like Canidae if you find he has loose stools. As much as mine LOVE canned food, they have to eat kibble for one of their meals or they have bad gas! Stick around on Yorkietalk and you will learn more about Yorkies than you ever wanted to know! |
Matthew, you are a great, great man! I also hope that the owners come forward, but, like everyone has already stated...I think he has a great home with you! Keep posting and I can't wait to see more pics of your new baby! Lisa |
KUDDOS!!! :D You are a real -life Hero. I am very impressed with everything that you have done for for the little guy :) You really are a great person.:D Best wishes to you and Myles. |
Wow! Your name wouldn't be Clark Kent or something like that, would it? Cause you are definitely a Yorkie Hero! Please keep us posted! Also, if someone does try to claim him, let them talk over the phone to him and see how he reacts. He's either going to get really excited or scared which will give you a clue as to what to do. Good luck, Clark! |

What a kind man you are :) Just latching on to the thread to follow this story! |
He followed you home? You know dogs have very good instinct about people. ;) If you can't find the owner, are you thinking about keeping him? Regardless of the outcome, I am glad he found u |
If you keep him, you get all the ladies. Whenever my boyfriend has my dog, women come up and talk to him ALL the time! |
Just trying my best Thanks to all of you for the kind comments. I am just doing what I think any one of you would do, or any half way kind person. I am keeping trying to find his owners...one other call today, for a lost Lhasa Apso. It is so sad and upsetting to hear people tell me their stories about their lost dogs over the phone. I feel for everyone of them. My big lab mix took off one day, and I did not find him for almost an hour. Boy was I upset. I hope I am doing right by him...I don't want to coddle him overly, but I think he enjoys the tiny cookie bones and his Filet Mignon flavored food! He also seems more interested in the goings on in the house- especially watching the kitten chase...whatever is handy at the moment (bread ties, stuffed mice, my sock). I found both the dogs sleeping on the couch today. And I fed them at the same time for supper, and it was quite humorous to see TJ next to Myles, both eating in tandem! TJ just towers over Myles, so I am keeping an eye on their interactions so Myles does not get crushed! TJ is very good with smaller animals and children. He usually gets down to their level and lets them jump on him. I think, in a strange way, he is concerned about Myles, and is keeping an eye on him. In case anyone is interested, I am a student at the University of Alabama, and am getting my Ph.D in Social Work (got my MSW from Tulane). Yes, we were Katrina evacuees. I never did go back except to get my stuff. Now the animals and I live in Northport, about 12 miles from Tuscaloosa. It has been a difficult few years, and I get emotional each year on 8/29. But it is working out well for all of us. I am just getting over a 200.00 emergency vet bill for the kitten, who followed his naughty sister out a screen window THEY pushed out. Grace (my Maine Coon) came back just fine, but Kenneth was scared, and hid under the house, and I could not see or hear him. He got flushed out by two nasty neighborhood dogs and bit up pretty bad. He is ok now, but gave me a big scare. Nothing like a 3 am vet visit with a bleeding cat to remind you of the important things in life. I may be broke, but we are happy! Anyhow, that's my tale. Back to the saga of Myles as the tale progresses. Matthew |
More pics of Myles 2 Attachment(s) Here are some more pics of Myles, just taken. He is getting ready for bed. His eye looks a bit gunky in one of the pics. I spotted this (not noticeable in regular, non-flash light), so I wiped it off with a bit of warmish water and a paper towel. Looks better now. Enjoy. |
Hi Matt, Following the progress here! I'm so sorry you had to move from Miss because of Katrina.. But you have a HUGE heart and I'm so glad you found Myles, which led you find YT and we got to find you! Social Work is definitely the right path for you - Roll Tide! I'm sure you are giving a lot of comfort to the people calling in response to your fliers. Bless their hearts, so many lost babies! Have you been able to check Myles teeth yet? The latest photos you posted makes me think Myles might actually be much older. Maybe he just looks that way to me because he's sleepy & tired. Keep on up dating us (as if I need to tell you). |

Yes, I was from New Orleans. I moved from Upstate NY (Ithaca) to go to Tulane. Brought the big dog with me. I lived for a while in the Fauborg Marigny, and then moved to the West Bank, which is where I was living when Katrina came through (right off of General Degaulle, near Holy Cross, for those in the know). We got out about 18 hours before the hurricane hit. Believe me, packing important stuff, one large dog, three cats, and three people and all their stuff in a minivan and driving for 12 hours to Jackson, MS was no fun (that trip usually takes 3-4 hours tops). I might have come back to stay if my two jobs, and the PhD program I was in at Tulane had stayed around, but none of them did. So my big dog and big cat got used to traveling- my girl cat now does not even need a carrier to ride in the car...she just curls up in the backseat and goes to sleep! Anyhow, Myles had managed to pull a woolen blanket over himself in the chair, so I thought he had gotten out again! He blended right into his nice little "cave". I did check his teeth, and yes, they appear to be adult teeth, and still amazingly white, with little tartar. I am amazed that he lets me do so much to him (check teeth, bathe, blow dry, etc...). So he might be much older than I thought. I was going by length of coat and color, as I read that all Yorkie pups are black and tan, getting the long, bluish/black coat as adults. So I am learning too. And his breath stinks. I know because I finally got a kiss on the nose. Sweet but stinky. More as it develops. Thanks for all your support here. I and Myles truly appreciate your help!! |
He looks like an adult :) Welcome to YT :) |
Oh my, I just read that whole post and I am addicted. First off what a wonderful man you are for doing this. It helps me reassure myself that there is hope in this crazy world we live in. I am new here to YT and I'll tell you now you couldn't be at a better place for advice on your new little guy. I will keep checking in to see what happens. Maker sure you keep us posted!! :animal-pa Parker sends all of his kisses:animal36 |
