How heavy will he be? Good evening, friends! Well, I asked my breeder how much my little boy weighs at 5 weeks old (born Oct. 2) - she said "1lb 9oz." According to a Yorkshire Terrier puppy weight chart, he is triple the weight of what it suggests he should be at 5 weeks old...does this mean he's going to be around the 6 - 7lb mark or am I not calculating this correctly? Please, breeders who have had experience with puppies' growth: I'd like to get your feedback on the rate of growth for puppies...what will be the approximate weight of my puppy by the time he's full grown? (I heard he's an active little guy and I can't wait to meet him, no matter what size, shape, or form! =)) |
i am not a breeder but i've been on here long enough to tell you that every breeder will probably say it can vary.. lol.. i know.. not the answer you are looking for.. but people are hesitant to say for sure because it doesn't just depend on the mom and dad.. it depends on the weigh of the grandparents too... |
the chart I looked at, he should be around 6 1/2 lbs. |
....and 5 weeks is pretty young. I've also seen the guess-tamation theory...triple the weight of the pup is at 8 weeks or double the 12 week weight. Again, it's always just an estimate. Not much help....are we? |
here is the chart I use http://pomderosaranch.com/ToyBreedWeightChart.htm |

Layla ont he other hand is not on track with that chart... lol... it's so hard to tell how big they are going ot be! |
Kathy that chart is pretty good..there are going to be some that are off..but, it's right on track with mine too, and I went back and checked with my little biewers(who is now 2 1/2 years old, and his was accurate as well.. |
You also need to take into consideration the size of the parents and the grandparents if at all possible.... 6-7lbs sounds like a great size...I am looking for a girl and prefer her to be 6-7 lbs. My boys are 4 & 5 lbs...The 5 lb is an okay size...The 4 lb is small I think....But most of all....Just hope they are healthy regardless of size.. |
