Where do I bury my bone?? Gizmo is NOT a whiner by any definition, but he has one behavior that puzzles me. I just wondered if this is a yorkie/ terrier behavior, or unique to my goofy boy. If Gizmo receives a doggie cookie or other larger-sized treat. He will carry it around in his mouth everywhere...whining and looking for a place to "hide" or "bury" it. Sometimes it takes awhile, but it usually ends up in his bed, under a blanket, in the clothes basket, or under a pillow on the couch. Then he uses his head and nose to mimic burying it or covering it up. Before he finds a place though, the frustrated soft whining is pretty pathetic. Heaven forbid someone should find it! Then, the whole thing starts over again. :D |
I haven't seen Susanah do this, but I have a chi who does the exact same thing. It drives me crazy! Most of the time she will follow me around with it in her mouth, whining, wanting me to hold it for her so no one else finds it. |
LOL! Yep, sounds like Gizmo. |
This is Moose to a tee! But, I have to help him bury it! When he is done playing with a toy or done with his bully stick, he'll run around with it in his mouth whining looking for some place to bury it. I HAVE to say, "do you want to bury it? then I start (pretend, lol) digging with both my hands on a pillow or blanket. He will then join in and dig with me. Sometime he digs with all his might for 2-3 minutes, then he will drop it and use his nose to cover it up!!;) This is an everyday occurence in our house. :p |
Zoey looks and looks for the perfect spot, then hides it in plain sight and covers it with pretend dirt! |
Oh my goodness that is tooooo funny! Neither one of mine do that. Only time Kobi does the "digging" is when his paws are wet and he gets on the couch and trying to dry off. I think one of y'all should post a video of this..I kinda wanna see :D |
Yes! Madeleine does this and it is so funny to watch. Even after she hides it she will always go back and get it to hide again. |
My little Oliver does the same thing :D but after he finds the perfect spot, he barks at it as if to say :animal36 (stay there). Then if Sweetie :aimeeyork goes near it he has to do it all over again.....One time I found a greasy bone under my pillow |
Tinkerbell does that too:D :D She is soooooooo adorable, she will hide it using her nose, usually where she sleeps............Maybe she wants to save it for a midnight snack:eek: :D |

When I give the boys a treat......Barney will take his and inhale it..... Bennie will take his and get soooo excited...He will whine and go in a little circle...Then he will find the "perfect spot" and bury it...This is usually somewhere in his imaginary mind????? He will set the treat down and push the imaginary dirt with his nose til he is satisfied that it is completely buried...(But we all see it still)...Then he will prance around so proud of himself....And as soon as he walks off- in comes Barney and POOF it is gone....Poor Bennie has no clue... |
Bella does this will all her treats and toys. She hides them in her den under her blankets and in plain sight too. I had to take some toys away cause there wasn't much room left for her ;) |
Harvey Does Exactly The Same Thing - Except He Is Quiet When Looking For His Hiding Place. Sometimes He Will Search For Ages Without Finding A Suitable Place Where He Believes Nobody Could Find It - Then He Will Go To A Corner Of The Room Or Leave It On View On One Of The Stairs.......weird!!!!! He Only Does This With Dentistix Or Chew Bones Though.... It Is Funny, But If He Carries On Too Long I Worry He May Be Stressing Out A Bit Too Much. |
Yep, same with romeo, but he is not a good hider, always the same place, behind cushions on couch LOL |
Gypsy does this too... she has two different methods though... 1 - put the treat/bone on the sofa and push the blanket with her nose and try to hide it... pretty much unsucessful everytime because we can still see it! (oh, and if you "see" her doing it then she will have to walk round the room with it for a while till we've "forgotten" she's going to bury it!) 2 - pushes the "imaginary" dirt that is all over our appartment over her dinner/water bowls! |
