Best brush? What brush do you all use to brush your babies? The one I have has soft bristles and really doesn't do anything. Also, what is the best way to get your dog to let you brush them? I always try to brush Lilly and I do alright with her back but as I go up closer to her head she starts biting at it. |
I use a pin brush without the balls on the end. I also use a comb for fine tuning and her snout. |

While a pin brush does work best - I recommend making an investment in a Chris Christensen pin brush. These brushes do not have the balls at the end. What a huge difference when I moved from a cheaper pin brush to the CC brush!! Easier to brush, the dogs aren't so annoyed & I believe it helps hair from breaking. Also, remember not to brush a dry coat - they sell some sprays, but personally I love Cloud Star's Buddy Splash. Here's a link for the brush http://www.chrissystems.com/brushes.htm a little pricey but worth it here's a link to the buddy splash www.cloudstar.com you could also look in the grooming forum for more on what people say about brushes and/or search for the Chris Christensen brush and what others on yt have to say about it |
I just got the CC brush eariler this year and what a difference it made! Definitely worth the $$. Besides the pin brush, I also use a slicker brush and a greyhound comb. |
What size CC brush do you use? |
I use the 20mm gold series pin brush. It's a good size for the yorkies |
I have the 27mm pocket pin brush. 35mm is supposed to be for long coats but it seemed a little too much for me. |
My pin brush is a CC |
Another vote for the CC gold series brush. I wish I hadn't waited so long to order mine. It really does make a huge difference. |
I have the 20mm gold and really love it but the pocket fusion has gotten fabulous reveiws here- I cheaped out and got the gold.:p |
I just bought a new brush from my local pet store. It is made by Kong. (The company that makes the rubber kong treat toy.) It is rubbery. I wasn't real sure about it but both the owners have yorkies and said it works great on their hair. And it does, matts brush right out and Angel, my yorkie biewer, whose hair is fine and tangles easily, Loves it and she is a real baby when it comes to brushing her out. The rubber is soft so it doesn't scratch or poke their skin. Bailey, whose hair is wavy likes it too. I have a whole container of brushes I have bought for my two and so far I really like this one. I do use another soft brush on their faces though because it is wide,(mine is in the shape of a dog) I am afraid I'll poke them in the eye. |
I also vote for the CC brushes. I use flea combs with handles or the Li'l paws combs the face. |
I have a CC pocket brush that I love! I bought it to take to shows, but I use it most of the time here too. The pins do not hurt the dog at all. Michelle I may have to look for the Kong one too. Glad to hear that Angel is still being pampered! Pam might appreciate a call if you have time, she is recouperating from surgery and cannot do much. |

I have been thinking about Pam and how her surgeries went. I will give her a call tommorow. I hope you and all your babies are doing well. I love your web site! |

Surgery went well. She is feeling pretty good. I just brought three of her dogs home with me tonight. It was getting hard to get down to her place because of a detour. It was taking me 1 hour each way. My parents also had surgery lately, so I have to take care of their household too. You will like the CC 27 mm pocket. Small size, with moderately long pins. Unfortunately most of the Biewers have a cotton coat, that is much harder to take care of. |

I will look for that size brush. |
Another vote for the CC Gold brush. :) I have both the Gold and Fusion and the Gold brush beats the Fusion hands down. Except for the pocket size, I wouldn't bother with the Fusion. It's overpriced IMO, while the Gold Series brush is worth every penny. |
I don't use a brush at all. I use a stainless steel comb. I use one with fairly thin teeth for Lacy. I have a Himalayan Cat (thick, cottony coat) and use a comb with a little bit wider teeth for her. If you use a brush, I suggest you go back over with a comb as well to get tiny tangles/matts. It really leaves their hair looking smoother too. |
I use a comb also. I might finish with a brush but I always use a comb first. I use a metal comb and a CC brush |

Yes, always follow brushing with a comb. The CC Buttercombs are to die for! Worth every cent and more. ;) |
CC gold all the way :) |
I ordered one. I'm excited! (How sad is that?! LOL) |
it's not sad -- I remember being excited too. And it did come really quickly :) |
I use a rolling comb (the teeth roll) and find it's great for tangles (I hold the base of the offending tangle, so as not to pull on the skin, and comb the rest of it out). For really bad tangles, I use a detangler too. But these CC brushes are piqueing my curiousity. I'm going to get one! The dogs are over a year old and I don't have a proper brush! It's a crime! T |
has anyone used a mason pearson boar bristle brush? Just wondering if they are worth the cost. |
Kathy, my friend and mentor swears by those brushes.....but they are very expensive. |
