Jesse attacks his own face! My Yorkie, Jesse, has been attacking his own face. He has started to frequently run his face against the carpet really fervently, and scratch at his face with his paws. I gave him a Dawn bath, although I doubted it was fleas since it was only his face. Still doing it. I took him to the groomers. Still doing it. The only other things I can think of are that (1) He has soap in his eyes. I try to be really careful when washing him to avoid soap in his eyes. Plus, he was at the groomer yesterday and I assume they are good about not getting soap in his eyes and also wash him thoroughly enough to get any existing soap residue out. Or (2) He is suffering from some type of allergy. If he is suffering from allergies, wouldn't it affect his whole body? What could he possibly be allergic to? Any advice? Sarah |
How long has Jesse been doing that? I know after a bath, Yoda will rub his face in the carpet for up to an hour, I'm pretty sure it's to either fully dry his face or scratch an itch. But I don't recall Yoda ever doing that for a whole day, except a few times when he got fleas, and then, he was scratching his whole body, not just his face. |
how old?? and when does he do it?? Like after eating or is it random??? |
skoshi will do this after a bath or after he eats. |
My dogs will "wipe their face" very vigorosly after eating. |
Max just started doing this recently too. But it's not associated with anything that I can figure out...not a bath, not after eating. Sometimes it's when he first wakes up and he does it on the bed, sometimes it's on the sofa. I just figure it's a change in the weather or pollens or something in the air. He doesn't seem to be uncomfortable and we don't even have fleas here, so I know it's not that. Maybe it just feels good:confused: |
Lilly does this too, I've never really payed attention to see if it's after anything specific but I'm pretty sure she just does it whenever she wants. |
It's random as far as I can tell. Several times throughout every day. I heard him doing it in his crate last night, too. He doesn't seem like he is in pain, but I can't help but worry. |

Id would definetly be worth a vet visit if it is something he is doing for no apparent reason..just to make sure it isnt a health problem..:) |
My Jesse was doing the same thing, I recently brought him to the vet and found out that it is an allergy, his skin is affected by it. all around his schnout & forhead. Vet thinks it could've come from thistle weed found in tall grass. I have Jesse on anitbiotics & prednisone for the discomfort. He doesn't grind his face in the carpet that much ever since being on the medicine. and I have noticed a difference. However, Jesse does wipe his face into the carpet after eating too possibly to clean his face off if hair is long, and after bath to dry it...:aimeeyork |
