Dog CLOTHES with SNAPS...WARNING I just love the new sleepwear and some other clothes that I got for Gracie because they have snaps. Easier on me and on her! Well, this morning when I got out of the shower, I found that Gracie had gotten a hold of one of her nighties (her favorite of course). She somehow got one of the snaps out of the nighty. Both pieces of the snap were still together, sitting on the floor, waiting to be swallowed or worse yet choked on! I had noticed when Gracie has her jammies on she will chew on the snaps. She often will get one or more apart, but I never dreamed that she could actually remove one from the garment. As with most things, supervise your Yorkie when wearing clothes with snaps and when not being worn, these clothes should be kept out of reach. I am also suggesting that those sewers in this forum who sell clothes might want to offer a velcro option if snaps are routinely used. |
OH WOW!! I am so glad Gracie is ok that is very scarry!! I have not used snaps on my clothing for fear of that happining as well and i haven't bought anything with snaps yet. thank you so much for the warning i will take caution. |
Oh wow! I never thought of that! And just yesterday I was looking at some infant sleepwear that snapped, thinking how adorable they were, and if I could somehow adapt them into doggie pj's:eek: . Guess I'll rethink that brilliant idea! Thanks for the warning! |
Glad to hear your baby is ok. I was just looking Wednesday at the walmart website and was going to order pj that had the snaps on them. Thanks for the information. Great about your baby:thumbup: |
 thankyou for the info so glad too that your baby is fine:aimeeyork |
I agree....... snaps or no snaps- I watch my two ALWAYS when they have any clothing on. They can get caught on anything!!.... or get a leg out of a sleeve and hurt themselves trying to get free. I never leave them alone with any clothes on. (but I do prefer snaps or pullover types....... with long-hair, velcro can be a nightmare  ) Glad you found the snap ...... and also for the "heads-up"...... Great Post! |
I found this out in the same manner. I have 2 pair of really cute jammies both with snaps and she got out of one pair and the top part of the snaps are missing. I never did find them so she must have swallowed them and thankfully did not choke. She did not get sick at all and I didn't know right away so she must have passed them in her stool by now. |
Bumping this up. |
Sounds like a good idea. Good safety warning. |

I don't leave them alone with clothing on either and always remove them when putting them in their crate. |
buttons I was wondering the same thing about all the clothing w/ buttons too. I mean just like I don't put buttons on my skin baby... I don't I would pet them on my furbaby. I like the velcro stuff a lot. |
How scary! I'm glad you found the snap before her mouth did! I've always tried to stay away from clothes with embellishments sewn on them for a fashion sense, like sequence, etc..but I never thought of snaps. I guess I'll stick to jammies with out snaps or any of that stuff, or just velcro, but Rocky likes to chew on the velcro and that keeps me awake all night. |
Thanks for the warning! Mr. Biggs has a few like that from go fetch... I never imagined one of them could come off! I'm definately going to only let him wear them when I can be there to supervise! |
