I've been had... Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Michigan Posts: 36 I've been had -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I purchased a puppy in October, owner said she would send for the papers, as of yet NO papers, now she won't answer or return calls. This was an $800 AKC dog with owner having both parents who were AKC. I do have receipt where owner is supposed to supply papers for me to register the dog. Where do I start with a complaint to AKC as i do not have litter number etc? I love the puppy and do not wish to return her for a refund, but i do want my AKC registration. Any advice? Thanks, __________________ Joan, Bailey, & Brandy |

If possible I'd go back to the breeders house to get my papers or atleast the litter registration so you can get hold of the AKC. |
My Mom had that happen to her...Papers were promised to her. She was told to come 3 days later to pick them up and they would be ready for her at that time. 3 days later Dad picked up the packet and took them home. Mom opened them up to find papers. Papers on how to take care of your new Yorkie! Not akc as promised. Well by 3 days mom was already attached to her new baby! so she just gave up. So many nasty people out there ready to scam you! Hate it. I wish you the best of luck! |
contact akc to see if she registered them. they should have her name on file as a breeder. if she is not listed, then these are not akc registered puppies or she did not want to spend the money to register them. keep at her. send a letter, go to her home, and do not give up. these people cannot continue to do this to innocent people. call call call her and don't stop. i am so very sorry this has happened to you. i have ALWAYS recieved my papers with the puppy. i never had to wait for the papers. |
I have always gotten papers with mine, but, I put them down in the file box, I don't show, nor do I breed, so, I never register mine... |
If your baby is AKC he should have papers already there. I would try calling Akc and getting information on this breeder and her credibilty. |
I am calling AKC tomorrow. Something is very odd here. The puppy is beautiful and in excellent health. I really would like to enter her in a few local dog shows. Thanks for the advice :) |
Wishing you lots of luck tomorrow with AKC. It is so sad people have to do this to others. People go out and spend their hard earned money on a sweet pup, become attached to him/her and never receive what has been promised to them and what they rightfully paid for. And then of course people don't want to give there pup back, because these little kid are the best! lol! I hope to hear good news in the near future from you. Best of luck |
OK I called AKC she is on file as a breeder, this litter was not registered and as of today nothing is on file, so AKC recomends I can file a complaint and take her to small claims court. So I left ond final message giving her time to respond. I've already emailed a judge in town i am related to Judge and Sheriff. So going to find out what I can do legally. Maybe fraud with misrepretation. I am keeping this puppy. I will not give her up. She has stolen my heart and is buddies with my other yorkie now. However, bad breeders must be stopped from scamming innocent people. Thanks for all the advice :) |
My sister is going thru the same thing, she has called the breeder numerous times, and its one excuse after another, she is calling akc to, enough is enough, hope things work out gor you. |
Honestly, what good are those papers???? Unless you are showing the dog, or plan to breed, I dont see how those papers are usefull. I still havent registered Rocky, couldnt care less about it. AKC is a joke anyway, it is so easy to get the registration one way or another. As long as the pup is is healthy and happy and you love him nothing else should matter, thats what I think at least. As for being had, $800 is a fair price for a good Yorkie. I paid 1000 and would pay 1000 even if Rocky didnt have papers. I just knew he was mine |
I've never bought a pup either without papers in hand, nor would I ever release a pup without giving the new owners their papers. I'm sorry this happened to you!!! Can you say who the breeder is and where she's located? Does she have a website? I hope you get your papers!!! Good luck!!! |

I'm sorry, i hope you get them! |
So maybe have someone else call her ... and if possible go backt o her house . You can request a lost registration form but she needs to fill it out , when I got Jolie I thought I was going to have a hard time getting her papers ... but i stayed bugging the lady and did most of the foot work for her... and she was compliant. |
If a puppy goes to its new home at 12 weeks, the breeder should have papers on hand. It doesn't take 3 mos to get the papers unless AKC has a paperwork problem. Papers go with all my pups at the time of pickup. The litter is registered either the same day or the day after the mom delivers them, so the papers arrive long before the pup is ready for its new home. An alarm should go off in your head if any breeder delivers a pup to you without papers, unless you personally know the breeder is reputable. And I do mean 'personally'. Scams work because scammers come across as really 'nice' and 'honest' people. I wish you the best on getting the papers for your baby and I admire the fact that you wouldn't give your baby up for anything in the world. If you don't get the papers, just let the bitterness go and rest easy in the fact that you can help prevent others from having this happen to them. It just breaks my heart that someone took advantage of your trust. Please keep us posted. |

Well yes I paid for an AKC puppy. Yes, I would like to show her locally in a few shows, I am a completely new to this. I plan to breed her once. She is with me to stay papers or not. It is just sad people will mislead you. It is not a huge imposition to register the puppy, nor does it cost a small fortune. AKC confirms both parents are registered dogs and have this person listed as a breeder. If I do breed her i forsee problems in getting a stud for an unregistered dog. Unless there is a sperm by mail business out there lol. I just want to do the right thing to get the paperwork on my puppy. No I will not post the name of breeder, but if PM allows it i will give out info so this doesn't happen to anyone else in the area looking for a furbaby, sort of a buyer beware. |
By the way my first Yorkie Bailey is my aviator photo. She is AKC but was spade, she has mild LP and her ears are not straight up. I did not breed her due to the flaws. However I kept her and I love that dog more than life itself! She is such a good dog, just beautiful and so smart, and she minds me completely (not a problem child lol). She is 5 lbs. The puppy is a problem child, acts like she is in her terrible twos, does not mind me yet. Is absolutely beautiful. Vet check was terrific-no health problems. She will be 5 to 6 lbs. I promised my great niece a puppy in about 2 years. |
If you are paying for an AKC registered puppy then the breeder needs to provide the papers! I know that some people do not feel the need to have the papers, but if you had plans to breed or show then you would need them. I hope that this breeder does the right thing and registers the litter and gets you the papers. |
Go to her house, call a lawyer, call the AKC, call the police, especially IF you have something saying she will provide such. I have always gotten a passport for my dogs, full registration papers along with a 5 and 6 Gen pedigree |
I do not have any advise other than some of the ideas that the others have posted. Just wanted to wish you luck!!! |
Bad Breeder in Michigan Ok evidently you can submit info on bad breeders. It has been 3 months, no paperwork, she will not return calls, messages, etc. I have contacted AKC twice, she never registered the litter at all. According to AKC i cannot file a complaint even though i have signed receipts of purchase of a female puppy with AKC paperwork. I need to take her to small claims court. So to answer the questions everyone is asking me the bad breeder with empty promises is: Kellie Adkins 14166 Exeter Road Carleton, MI 48117 (734) 778-4676 |
interesting...that is one of the towns right next to my hometown (i am going there for christmas)...i will ask my parents if they have heard of that family (they know everyone lol) ... if i hear anything back, i will let you know...if you want to PM me as a reminder, it might be easier as i am sure this thread will get pushed back by the time i get back... the name sounds vaguely familiar to me...please PM me and i will see what i can find out... i am sorry this happened to you :( |
end of story Finally got paperwork in February. She listed possesion date as wrong/changed. She only gave limited registration when full/unlimited was promised. Moral of story Do Not believe what people say or promise, Get it in writing!!! At least my baby is registered now, although i did want to breed her once. Thanks for all the helpful advice from yorkietalk. I am too tired and too broke to go to a full court fight on this. |
shame on that breeder:doh:    |
