Missy was an only child for a few months and I contemplated getting her a companion, I wasnt sure if it would change her and thought it would be more work but I was wrong. Its much easier to have two, they are both my babies and love to be cuddled but they also keep eachother busy by playing while I am making dinner etc. . They also keep eachother company while I am at work. Missy is still the same fun, happy girl she was before but now she is a little bit happier ;) she has a boy to chase around the house all day! LOL They love eachother and I know they are so happy to be together. Getting Max, was the best desicion and I so glad I did it  |
Hi Farrah, I know exactly how you feel. Mia and I were SO bonded after a year together, I mean she was deeply attached and so was I, I was scared to death getting a second one would ruin that and I wouldn't have my "baby" anymore. I got Emmy anyway though because my roommate who had a dog that Mia played with everyday moved to Baltimore and I knew Mia would be sad without a playmate. I am SO glad I did. Mia and her will play and play and play, but it is still clear that Mia is the mommy's girl and Emmy is Miss Independent. Their personalities are so different, Emmy will snuggle when she's sleepy but she likes to be down and on her own while Mia likes to be held all the time. It hasn't changed her one bit, except to make her happier and not nearly as upset when I leave! |
Thanks so much all you guys! I am so happy to hear all of these happy stories!! I hope if we decide to get another, things will be just as great. :) |
Hi Farrah! I have to say that Simon did change a lot when I got Hallie! He became more independent (which killed me) and I went through a lot of issues with them but as you all know they both didn't have the best starts to their little lives and that I'm sure made all the difference. I had a hard time with wondering if I was giving them both enough love and attention individually and if they felt loved enough, I know I'm paranoid about a lot of things! They still have their arguments but there is nothing better than when they are snuggled up together sleeping or when we are all laying in bed together! I also feel a lot better about leaving them knowing they are with each other! I don't want to discourage you and hope you don't think that! I LOVE having 2 and they love each other. I would absolutely go for it! Zeus would be so happy! |
When my daughter brings her chiwowow over Pita loves it. But they never stop and it's annoying. I know it wouldn't be that way with every dog, but PIta is different when he is around, more like a dog. She's much cuddlier and mommy motivated when she's alone. I prefer one dog, but if I had to leave her alone alot I would consider another dog to keep her company. I say that now, but if a puppy or another yorkie was offered to me it would be hard to pass up!! |
When we got Jake, Buddy did not want to have anything to do with him. We had Buddy alone for almost a year then my husband said that he needed a friend. Now they cry if the other isn't around and fight to be the center of attention. |
Mac was 7 months old when we got Mellie. It was the best thing we could have done for him. I work part-time and while the kids are at school he is no longer lonely. They are completely unseperatable. They only time we may have an occasional squirmish is over treats. Mac likes to take Mellies treats and hide them. He does have the upper hand even though he is the smaller of the two. :animal-sm |
I got a second yorkie because I wanted to give Cookie a playmate. For me it didnt work out great . Cookie never changed his personality. My second Yorkie Mimi does not like Cookie and often fights with him to the point of painful biting! We keep them seperated most of the day and only allow them to be together when we can supervise. I've had her for 4 months already and very little has changed. But I know this doesnt happen for everyone that gets a second dog.I love Mimi too and the only reason why I did not choose to give her up is because of my 8 yr old daughter who has become like her second mother! She loves Mimi to death and sleeps with her everynight. I still find myself looking through ads and pictures and I think Im nuts!lol I guess what I was looking for was another Cookie! I told myself that if all yorkies were like Cookie I would end up with 6 yorkies! From my experience the boy was the calm one that wanted to be cuddled all the time. But I hear of so many yorkie moms that say that their girl is the little cuddly one.I think getting a second yorkie is a great idea but you truly will never know how they will get along until both of them are living together for a couple of weeks or months... I thought the same thing about loving them was I going to be able to give them enough. I think I do, it's just me so they have all my attention. Maddie didn't change, I think she thought she was Rudy's mom and now with Polly it's the same. Rudy is in heaven having two sisters to play with. Having three is not that different than having two, or maybe I have just lost my mind and don't notice. I can tell you there is never a dull monent when they are all running around the house and then throw in Lucky my 15 year old chow-mix and the fun real gets going. |
We had one Yorkie for 15 1/2 years, & I always said next time we get a puppy, we are going to get two. It always bothered me that Mocha seemed bored or was CONSTANTLY looking for me, & I always felt anxious when we had to be gone. My 24 year-old daughter (who doesn't live at home anymore but for some reason we see her more than when she did live at home  ) bought a chihuahua in December. We bought Kodah in March & she absolutely loved Paisley, but it took about two weeks for Paisley to feel the same. I actually looked forward to Paisley coming over because Kodah just loved her. Five weeks later we got Stormy. Paisley & Kodah would have nothing to do with her for the first few days, but gradually they accepted her. Now they are all three great together & we call them the "rat pack" - the three of them together weigh less than 10 lbs. Paisley, the chihuahua is now 8 months, Kodah our Yorkie is 5 months, and Stormy our yorktese is 4 months. All three have such different personalities & we absolutely love watching them wrestle, play & nap together! I agree with the others, you will never know until you try - but for me, I do not think I will ever have just one! |
1 Attachment(s) I got three myself!!! When we first got Max, he was very sad when we went to work and left him home. Cause of that he would rip into the carpets, tear the wallpaper off the wall, and didn't eat well. Max was always sick and lonely so we got him a playmate (Kiwi) a few months later and it really changed his life. Now we kept one of their daughter (Punkin) to play with them both. They all get the same attention from us so they are all spoiled. |
Nope.....No change I have my Kizsez and daughter has her Huggz and both have kept their own personalities.....Kizsez is pure girl...likes to smell everything I am going to wear first including my perfumes and lotions and Huggz is just like a little boy...always looking for something new to explore. He sees all and knows all, that's our Huggz. Kizsez like to stick close to me and follow me whereever I go and Huggz goes whereever he pleases. We Love both personalities very much. |
Thanks again everyone for sharing! I think if we decide to get Zeus a brother or sister, it won't be until next year. I will keep all of you updated with what we decide. For the most part, I feel that little Zeus is very happy, but if there is something that I can do to make him even happier, I am all for it!! :) |
