M-I-L- Problems Can you help? Every time I see my mother-In-Law she is on my case. She will say things like, that is a dog you know, She is not a baby, that poor dog, Come let me get you out of those things. Just stuff like that. Im getting sick of it. She has never really had a dog that she cared about. She had a pom but she didnt take good care of him. She never feed him right. Feeding him cooked chicken bones and giving him milk and bowels of icecream. Which all made him sick. She never took him to the vet. She lives on 300 acres and we live behind them on 200 more acres and she would leave him outside with no fence and leave the house. Well he would make his way to my house. The thing is we have all kinds of animals that could hurt him. Well one day he didnt make it here and never made it back home. She said he ran off. I guess thats what she had to tell herself. The thing is My yard is fenced and I never leave my babies outside alone. Our closes neighbors is a mile down the road but im dont take any chances. The thing is I dont know what to say to her. I dont know how to get her to stop with the rude comments. I have gotten to where I avoid her. So now she is making a point to come by here. Any advice on how to deal with this would be grateful. Im so sorry this is so long. |
What about just being honest with her. The next time she says something you don't like. With as much politeness as you can, tell her how it makes you feel. |
I agree, tell her how it makes you feel. You could also say "we all take care of our pets in different ways....this is how I choose to take care of mine" |
I have explained that my kids dont need me anymore and I love so mommy my baby. I have even showed he that Muffy loves to wear her clothes and bows. She explained to me that we live in a small hick town and that it didnt look right for me to be dressing a dog up in clothes. She thinks she is somebody in this town and Im guessing someone has said something to her about it. Iv tryed to be nice but its getting had. |
Oh my goodness gracious, I am so sorry you are having to deal with that - it sounds VERY annoying. All I know is, my mother in law will be down here in 10 days from Canada to come and stay with us for 2 weeks, and she BETTER not say one single WORD about how I am with my babies. The last time she was down here I didn't have either Yorkie yet, so  Her sister used to have a Yorkie though, so she DOES like them...but I bet ya a million bucks her sisters Yorkie wasn't even HALF as spoiled as mine are :p I actually think I am going to move all of their clothes into my bedroom while she is here - seriously - LOL....I don't want her to think I spend all of our money on dogs clothes. Uhh, which, technically I do :D :p Now when my father in law comes down (trust me, I am NOT looking forward to the day...) I KNOOOOOW he will say something. He ALWAYS has something to say about EVERYTHING   No offense to any German's out there - but he IS German and lets just say that he IS NOT afraid to speak his mind - even if it makes him look like a total "you-know-what" ........he could care less. Ok, don't even get me started on him because once I get going about my FIL I won't shut up - the man drives me INSANE  Anyway I am sorry for blabbing!! lol. I honestly and truthfully have no advice except to just flat out tell her off. Does your husband stand up to her at all??? I personally would only be able to take that crap for so long before just totally blowing up in her face. I mean, that is YOUR dog - sorry but she needs to mind her own darn business and keep her nose out of yours. Maybe if you lay into her she will BACK OFF a little bit  She has no problem coming into YOUR home and telling you what SHE feels....I'd do the same to her girl  |
Omgosh you just wrote a post about MY mother in law! She is the EXACT same way! The best thing I have learned to do is just ignore her. Believe me, it took me a little while to get the hang of it. In fact, there is more than one thread on here written by me about it. I learned just to smile sweetly and say, "Thank you for your opinion." Then continue to treat the Poopanut like the queen that she is. |
Sorry that your having these issues.. MIL's can do it to ya' sometimes. I do think its best for you to be honest with her. What do you have to loose?!? Your already married to her son, so he's not going anywhere... One things for sure, if you dont let her know - than her approach is always going to be the same and might even get worse. Good luck :) |

Sounds like your MIL has very thick skin (and maybe even a hard head ) and a simple, "please don't" isn't going to work with her. I am not one to totally go off on someone either (trust me, I'm not) BUT - the day someone waltzes into MY home and starts ripping clothes of my babies is the day that I GO POSTAL  |
I just did a mother in Law thread also. They sure can drive you crazy sometimes |
Alcohol J/K!!!!! (sort of) Be straight forward and tell her to stop in an assertive, yet polite manner. Ask her to respect you by not discussing it any more. Then, if she continues, ask her to leave. Good luck sweetie. Been there, done that. |
Ugh! MIL's!! Luckily I have a wonderful MIL now. But I had the MIL from He** for quite a few years. I would simple ask her not to touch your dog. Nicely of course... lol If she tried to remove her clothes again, I would get up and retrieve the dog from her and tell her to stop. If you decide to put clothes on your dog, that's your decision. Who does she think she is?? I would remind her that this is "your" dog, not hers and to please refrain from undressing or messing with your dog's hair. |
