With DNA, AKC has, and will continue to weed out incorrect breeding. 5 yrs ago, I received a letter from AKC stating that a female that I had purchased for breeding did not match her sire. It took a year for the breeder to DNA all her dogs and get it straightened out for me. I was frustrated but grateful that AKC was indeed doing their job and caught it.
AKC does have more inspectors now, and they inspect breeders that have a certain amount of litters, once every 2 yrs, as long as they have no problems. When they inspect, they also DNA mom's, dads, and puppies on the premises, as well as paperwork.
With AKC, every male that has sired 3 litters needs to be DNA'd and they match that to his parents, grandparents and so forth. If they don't match, he and all of his progeny is suspended and removed from the AKC registry. Anyone lying about the parentage will eventually be caught with AKC. Sadly, when a disreputable breeder gets caught with AKC, they simply can register with another registry, that doesn't require DNA, and keep on breeding.
I'm sorry, I usually keep my opinions to myself, but that outdated article really bothered me. I take my breedings very seriously and I, for one, will only use and recommend AKC registration!
I apologize now to reputable breeders using other registrations. Some of you started out breeding with other registrations, and this was not meant to hurt you in any way. Just voicing my opinion on something I believe in!
