When I got new pups, I brought them in to the house, would let the other ones smell them, this way, they know they're here to stay..never had a problem.. 2. What kind of food do you buy for a little dog? 3. When do you get him fixed? Usually between 5/6 mos. in SC is when the vets will neuter/spay them 4. How often do I feed him? With little ones, the vet said either free feed, or plenty of small meals a day. 5. When do I get my first vet visit? I would set up an appt. right away to get him checked out, this is usually pretty inexpensive, and they will set you up then for his shots.. |
Not too sure about puppy food... I went to a local pet health food store and the man helping me told me to never feed puppy food and that it makes their legs long :confused: I'm not too sure about the long legs, but come to think of it, my friend fed puppy food to her Maltese, and she does happen to have extremely long legs. He also said that in the wild, they wouldn't be able to choose from "puppy" or "adult" food...they would all eat the same whether they are babies or adults, so that made a lot of sense to me. My breeder gave me a bag of Solid Gold adult food, which was what she had all of her puppies on. This was great, as the man at the store had recommended the same thing to me. Quote:

I have never heard that feeding puppy food gives them long legs. Quite a few of the "good" dog food companies make All Life Stages food which is fine. Ellie ate puppy food and I don't think her legs are too long. hmmm... Puppy food has higher levels of protein, minerals and fat to support muscle and bone growth. These requirements might be met though with a high quality adult food. |
Oh lordy thao, I don't think that guy should be working at a pet store...LOL if that were the case, all of mine with short legs would have long legs..:) Anyway, the puppy food is better for them, it has the nutrients to help them grow and also more fat in it than the adult food..I think it's very important for them to be on puppy food for at least the first 6 mos. of their lives. Now, you can get canidae, and it's for all life stages.. |
