I'm kind of worried When i got Sophie at 6 months she was 3 lbs. Her parents are both small but i figured she might get a little bigger. Well i weighed her today and she is the same weight as London 2.6 lbs. I thought her weight was supposed to go up not down. :( She eats normally, is very active and gets a lot of exercise, she get treats during the day and she is not sick. She is acting normal and happy. Sometimes though Teddy and London won't let her get to the food. Teddy has always been like that, he used to do that to London but London learned to stick up for herself and will eat before he does. But London will hog all the plates, even if she isn't eating she will look at them with a look that makes them scared to go near it. Of course tho i make sure she eats, i will hold T & L and let her eat until she's full which is usually only a little, so she gets all the food she wants. London has smaller bones, and most of her weight is in her tummy, Sophie is a tad longer than her so i guess it evens out. But i just don't know why she has gone down in weight and not up:confused: Should i feed her more?? oh yea she is going on 10 months old |
Actually, it can be pretty common in tinies...or "smaller than average" yorkies. It's just when they lose their baby fat (milk fat) they can lose a little. As long as she's active and eating well...and you see no signs of hypoglycemia or a liver disease, she should be fine! I could be wrong though...but this is what I've always heard! Sophie is similar...but a little bigger. She weighed 3 lbs, 5 ounces at 5 months...now at 6 months she's slimmed down and gotten a little taller...and she lost the 5 ounces. She was the biggest in her litter of 5...and her sisters range from 1.5 lbs to 2.5 lbs now. |

Oh ok that makes sense. I guess it's like chubby toddlers become skinny kids as they get taller. That's kind of what happened to my little sister. She had a round belly when she was like 5 but now at 9 she is kind of tall and super skinny! Yea im guessing that is happening to Sophie cause she did get taller, well longer so i guess it just evened out or something. |
Yep...I'm sure she's fine...just keep checking her weight every few weeks and I would mention it the next time you take her into the vet for a check-up or a shot. As long as she's acting normal and healthy I don't think you have anything to worry about! :D |
I wouldn't feed her more, unless you can see her ribs..Ask your vet next time you take her in if she looks healthy |
I'm sure she is perfectly fine but it might make you might feel better if you fed her separately. That way you know she is getting to eat all of her food. I have to feed my boys separately from Gracie because she would eat all of their food before they had a chance to blink.:p |
My breeder warned me about this very thing....She told us not to panic if they lose a little weight...That it is just puppy fat burning off.....She said as long as you feed a quality feed and they are eating and healthy then not to worry.... But it's kinda scary  |

Sarah don't worry because I think this is completely normal for some. Trixie for a good while was about 5 lbs. As time went on she got more lean and is now a steady 4 1/2 lbs. Like someone else mentioned, I assume it was baby fat. :p |

Cali and Maya guard the food bowls when I have their dry food down and poor Pixie whines and kicks her back legs and they just glare at her. They don't want the food they just don't want her to have it. So I put some on my bed, Maya can't get up there on her own so then Cali runs up there and tries to keep it from Pixie up there. So I have to keep putting some over by Pixie and she has learned to eat on the run!!! They all get wet 2 times a day and nevr fight over that?!! |
