Puppy mills
 

How do you tell if someone is running a puppy mill? The place we bought Lilly from seems like one but I don't wanna go pointing fingers and not knowing what I'm talking about. It's really been bothering me though since I've joined here on YT and seen the different posts about them. Help someone?

How clean was it kept?

How many breeds were they breeding?

Were the dogs outside in kennels?

This is why it bothered me so much. It smelled horrible when we walked into the room where the puppies were kept. When we first got there the woman's husband took us down to this building and as soon as we started walking down there all kinds of (I'm guessing) larger dogs were outside in metal/wooden kennels and they all started barking like crazy. As soon as we got down to this building we went in and it was just like the room where she took pictures of them and everything then you walked through another door that was shut and you went into what was somewhat like a garage and all the puppies were in there in kennels side by side. Some of the puppies were even in the kennels together. There was poop and pee all in the floor underneath their kennels and some even had feces IN their kennel with them. They all started barking and going crazy as if they had never seen a human before (it was weird). She breeds an outrageous amount of different breeds and even breeds some of them crossed. She has a website but I'm scared to post it because I don't want someone e-mailing her or anything saying I'm on here asking about it. On her website though she has many different breeds listed.

Sorry if the typing is wrong on some... I was looking on the website then clicking back over and typing them. I mean, I know she's obviously doing it for profit considering how they were kept and how many she breeds and considering there really isn't any other breeders around but still, something just doesn't seem right. :(

I'm surprised she let you pick up the puppy there instead of meeting you somewhere.

You should post as much info on this place as you can to warn others. They will never know who you are. You might even be able to help shut this place down:thumbdown

So, now, what do I do? It's so scary doing this considering I live in such a small town but I want what's best for the puppies and it's bothering me way too much. Can you report her anon or what? I just don't understand how she has went on doing this for so long but in a way I can... considering no one around here really knows about these types of things. But I just don't understand how she's taken all of these dogs to the vet for shots and stuff and the vet doesn't know that it's wrong? This is the part that's making me 2nd guess myself.

Well, I pretty much think that has a lot to do with us living in such a small town and everything and no one ever really hearing of things like this.

I don't know if its this way everywhere, but here the Dept. of Ag are the ones that inspect breeder facilities

You should ask her to scan her CKC Certificate or find out what kennel name she is registered under with CKC. I don't know how they approved her if she has multiple breeds. Plus, she's only selling them for $600, which is quite cheap for a reputable breeder.

those poor puppies. None of them looked happy and playful like puppies should.

Those Pei pups looked really sick.

I'd imagine that by CKC she means continental kennel club and they'll register anything.
