I am so happy Kalina is doing good. Your calm and rational thinking helped saved your babies life. Between you and the gardner a blessing happened. Gorgeous Kalina is safe and happy with her mommy. |
I didn't know they were made in China. On the bag it says California!! I wish I still had the bag, but I gave it back to PetSmart this morning. Baby Fidgette: I was thinking of trying the Heimlich, but when I felt the wafer it felt like it had stuck to her esophagus and I didn't think pressing on her tummy would help in this instance. I was trying so hard to think of what was the best thing to do. Also, I didn't have anyone to hold her mouth open. I didn't want to leave her for a second at that point to try to find someone to help. I know I acted purely out of gut instinct and probably did the wrong thing and it just happened to work. You're right though about the Heimlich and I need to read more about that!! :) Margaritaville: Hubby said that, since it was 100% chicken it wouldn't show up on an x-ray. I am praying that it went into her tummy and not into a lung via the trachia. I'm watching her closely though and it's a worry. Thanks. :) |
WOW!!! I do not think I would have been able to keep my cool that way! Thank you for the warning about these treats, these are something I have given to Bruce in the past, but surely will not in the future. |

Thank you so much for posting this warning. That's why I love this site, for all of the great information and help. Thank GOD your sweet baby is OK! |
Wow that was scarey. I'm glad she's ok. |
Thank goodness Kalina is okay and you reacted as you did. Good job. As for those treats, thanks for the warning and they need removed from the shelves!! |
Oh how scary! I'm glad you were able to stay calm and get Kalina breathing again, good for you!!! Thank you for the warning! I'm glad Kalina is okay! |
Thanks for the warning! I saw one reply that said they had made a dog sick-why were they still out for sale????? I am glad your's is ok! I would of had a heart atttack! |
wow how scary! i'm glad kalina is ok, you're lucky that gardener was there |
oh my gosh saw these type of treat in the petco today- i never thought it would be a danger, didn't buy them, now never will. It is like giving a quarter to a toddler- you never would do that- the manufacturer should be informed- dogs will choke- please keep trying to reach them! |
i just bought some of these! I wonder if they will return them? They are unopened |
Iam so happy she is ok, I know i panicked when molly choked on a treat, now I dont give her anything without crushing it up, Im so paronid now, I did the same as you and stuck my finger down her throat, only to make it worse, thank god she vomited and it all came out, hugs to you both:) |
How scary, thank God that Kalina is okay:love:! I gave one of those to Luna a while back and it got stuck up on the roof of her mouth, between her teeth. She kept running up to me, and I was thinking she was begging for more, when I noticed that she couldn't close her mouth:eek: THAT was frightening, I can't imagine what you went through today:cry: I don't think that they should be given to ANY sized dog, a bigger dog could just as easily swallow it whole and have a problem:( |
Big ((((HUGS)))) to you both !! I am so happy to hear she is ok. I commend you for acting so calm and getting things taken care of despite being scared to death. I agree, she was laying on you to let you know she loves you and she knows you saved her life !!!! God bless you both, |
I had bought those treats, only the bigger size! Indigo my toy poodle gagged on them twice, and I had cut them in 1/4's!! They are gone, gone, gone! |
OMG!!! It was like I was living that with you reading your post!!! That is sooo scary!! What an angel that gardner was!! What a blessing!! How is she now?? I didn't read all the thread....but did you call the company that makes the treat?? |
YIKES! What a horrible ordeal! Thank you for posting this. Hopefully, people will heed your warning! |
Wow.. how scarey. Your quick reaction saved her life. It so hard to know what treats to give our little ones now days. Glad she is OK. |
OMG!!!! How scary. Thank God she is okay!!!!!!!!!!! |
Wow..that is soooo very scary!! I am so glad you saved her life and possibly the life of many other yorkies!! Good job!! Dawn |
That is so frightening, and you were incredible. Charlie was chewing on a C.E.T. Oral Hygiene Chews for small dogs, and it was stuck on the roof of his mouth. Threw them away after I realized he could also choke. |
Good job and quick thinking on your part. Thank you so much for posting your story. You may have just saved several Yorkies and their brothers and sisters from a tragic accident. I know all of us Yorkie Moms are grateful to you. Hope Kalina continues to be okay. Love her name! :aimeeyork :animal36 |
That had to be so scary, This same thing happened in the car with us but It was with my human baby. she had a hard juice jar lid stuck in her throat and could not breath. she threw her head back and busted my nose, I was so scared the only thing I could do to help her was pull it out of her throat, knowing it could of caused damage, but If I didnt she would of died. it was so lodge in her throat I had a heck of a time getting ahold of it, but I did and she was then able to breath. Ill never forget it, it was so scary. |
 OMG! That is scary because I was looking at that same treat a month ago at petsmart and thought right away that this treat is a choking hazard because of its shape and size. So I got the strips and the dumbell shaped ones instead. But OMG! I feel so sorry for you and at the same time glad that everything is okay. I need to warn the petsmart or any petstore employee that this certain product is a choking hazard. I feel bad that I didn't say anything before. |
