Who had the youngest yorkie! I am just wondering, at how many weeks did your baby come home w/you. My friend is getting a yorkie tomorrow and I believe it is only 6 weeks old. The mom does not want anything to do w/the pups anymore! What does that mean!:aimeeyork |
I brought one of mine home at 6 weeks. He did fine. Its not the ideal age but sometimes the breeders let them go that young. As long as she watches the pup for hypoglycemia it will be okay. She wants to keep the pup eating. Maybe find out what the breeder was feeding |
It means that the momma doggie it trying to wean her puppies and does not want them chewing on her teats with those sharp little teeth that are coming in. She's teaching them some manners right now and is probably quite vocal with them when they chase her. It's one of many things that they will learn from their momma in the next few weeks. |
Oh! so young! with special care and attention it can work, my Pixie didn't come to me till she was 14 weeks which was a good thing as she's very small.;) |
I brought Chuy home with me when he was 6 weeks old, and he weighed 12oz's. We kind of had no choice in the matter. Hurricane Katrina was blowing our way, and my breeder was trying to clean house. Good thing we got him too, Kenneth (my breeder) lost his kennel. No babies were lost, though, as they were all inside with him. Chuy did fine. Our biggest problem was keeping him from getting embarrassed when he went potty and some got on his fur. He's such an emo little baby, lol. My husband came and picked him from and took him home to Pensacola, and they rode out the storm together while I was stationed at Keesler AFB in Mississippi. By the time I got home a week later, Chuy had gained 4ozs and was in heaven. |

My first one was 6 weeks, never had any problems with her, and she was very well socialized.. |
My karleigh came home at 6 &1/2 weeks, It was the way i could get her, breeder was not willing to hold her, any way, she did fine:) make sure your friend has nutrical on hand, just in case;) Im sure with your help & advise things will be fine;) |
Zoeybear was 8 weeks and 2lbs. Tho she was a bit bigger, she required 24hr attention. I didnt leave her alone at all for over a month. She was just too small. I had to count her kibbles to make sure she was eating.:animal36 She was still a bit clumsy. It was a lot of work. My next one is going to be over 12 weeks. I am hoping it is easier with Ivy. |
Maggie's breeder sold her to my Dad when she was only 35 days old!!! ( My Dad didn't know anything about yorkies and trusted the breeder)  But we just realised that when I brought her home - she was not eating the kibbles the breeder sent along w/ her, that's when I saw she didn't have teeth!!!!  Well, I took care of her, and now she's 1 1/2 yrs old and weights 4lb of pure joy:cool: Hannah was brought home when she was 3 months old...;) |
Zada was 14 weeks and Azrael was 5 months. Even if the mom isn't feeding the puppies, they should all stay together till at least 12 weeks. They learn so very much from the mom and littermates. |
Lily was 7 weeks when we brought her home. She weighed about 2 pounds though and was a lot bigger than her brothers and sisters. She did fine and is now almost 8 months and doing great. We had no health problems- thankfully. |

I brought my first Yorkie baby, Marshall, home at just barely 6 weeks. His mama cut him off and would have nothing to do with him. So we did not have much choice. My best friend was the breeder and she worked. I am at home so I was able to feed and watch over him 24/7. I had him 3 weeks and he had several seizures and past on. That like to have killed me. I honestly feel somethig was wrong with him already and that was why Mama cut him off... Then later, I ended up getting Barney at 14 weeks and was scared to death...But he was great....And we went back and got his brother Bennie at 16 weeks. I swear that was the perfect ages.... When I find and get my little girl, I hope she will be in the same age group if I can help it. |
Most likely there was something wrong with him if the mama cut him off..I had a litter of shih a poos a few years ago, and the one little girl kept getting pushed away by her mama, well, she ended up dying, the mothers know when there is something wrong with them.. |
