Smokey humping Chip?
 
Okay, some of you know that I brought a rescue, Smokey, home. In the last couple days I noticed that Smokey is trying to hump Chip... they are both neutered males. Most of the time Chip spazes, growls, and fights, but one time he actually let him do it! Is this normal? How can I get this to stop?

I know it's more than frustrating - but, I think you'll have to let the boys work it out on their own...unless one is hurting the other. It's a pack thing. Smokey is trying to dominate Chip - they're finding their place in 'the pack'.

It's nasty... lol. I've never done this two dog thing. I've only had one at a time so this new to us.

Coby and Reggie (both neutered) also seem to prefer this way of working out their places in the pack. I've tried to just have them sit down and discuss it like civilized doggies, but they think their way is more fun. ;) Reggie (our older Shi Tzu) is usually the dominating one... every once in a while he'll "allow" Coby to have a go. It is natural and harmless. However, when mine get carried away, I just squirt them with the water bottle and distract them with something else to do. While it is natural in the wild, they do live in my house. I still make the rules and wouldn't want to not be able to control that if I had company that didn't find that entertainment to their liking. :eek:

So, it is natural. But you don't have to let them get carried away.....

It's not pleasant but totally normal behaviour :D I have all female dogs and there has been many a times i've looked out back to see my older lab humping my younger one.

Around here, Ms. Abigail (7lbs) dominates my mix, Mozart (23lbs). IF she could hump him, I think she would! So, she uses other tactics: pushing, bumping him with her li'l Yorkie bum, poking his head with her paws. He just stands there, looking at her like she's an obnoxious brat, then goes on his way. But, he NEVER puts her in her place. Sometimes, I wish he would.
