Introducing spoiled boy to new baby girl? Any advice out there on how to smooth the transition when introducing my very spoiled little boy (2 years old in January) to a new baby sister? I'm plotting to rob Archie of his "only child" status, but I'm worried about the impact to him. I can see when we're out walking that he really wants a playmate, but at the same time, he is so bonded to me that I wonder how he will deal with sharing mommy with a bratty ol' little sister! Thanks! |
We just introduced our very spoiled yorkie male (Jake, who is a mama's boy) to a new little brother (Jackson). It has been hard at times because they are both jealous of each other, but they are getting along great and have so much fun playing together.:) As long as you make sure you pay the same amount of attention to both (not always easy, I know), it should be okay. It took mine a couple days to "like" each other. Jake would not let Jackson lay with him or near him for awhile, but now they nap together and are pretty much inseparable. Jake was mad at me for the first couple days, wouldn't have anything to do with me. I just didn't make a big deal out of it to him (although I felt horrible). Eventually, everything as fell right into place, and they are adjusting really well. Try to make sure to have some alone time with Archie while the new baby is napping, or take him outside with just the two of you. He will soon see that you love both of them and that just because there's a new sister, he won't get any less love. Good luck and congratulations! |
I introduced Kodak who was 2 at the time to his little sister Kamari and all hell broke loose. Kodak was so spoiled because I thought he would be the only dog but eventually he needed a playmate. So I opted for my little girl & she is so sweet. He use to be such a good boy, then he would jump on her and fight at the spur of the moment. She is smaller than him but she has been defending herself from day one. I literally had to seperate them at one time. Well, she will be a year old this month and he is a lot better once he saw she will fight back. But at one time during the first 3months, I thought I was going to have to give him to my mom.:( I did everything the same, and gave them both attention, but he didn't want her playing with his toys or nothing. He is neutered and I thought he would act so much better back then. Now he's ok with her, they do play 60% of the time, the other 40 they are duking it out. LOL! He had to come around but hopefully you'll have better luck than I did. I love them bunches though. :) |
Thanks for the advice! I have days of thinking, "maybe I shouldn't do this" and then I see how eager Archie is for doggy interaction and I think, "you need to do this for him." Aaaarrrgghhh! I hope I'm doing the right thing! |
I just brought home my rescue on Tuesday. I'll give you a breakdown of how it went. Tuesday... Chip (my spoiled boy) was scared. He kept drooling everywhere and Smokey (rescue) wanted to play. Wednesday... Chip gave me this pure look of betrayl... the look of "WHY MOMMY? WAS I NOT GOOD ENOUGH?!" I was so upset by him giving me that look I'd start crying just thinking about it. Chip started fighting for dominance and Smokey thought he was playing. lol Thursday... Chip finally got Smokey to submit after a couple rough fights. Then they started play fighting and wrestling! Chip still isn't too happy about him being there. Right now he "tolerates" him and will play with when he's in the mood. I was laying on the floor yesterday and Chip came over to give me kisses. Well Smokey wanted to give me kisses too and Chip spazzed. They have been starting to lay closer to each other when they are napping. That's probably how it's going to go with you two. Your male is probably going to let her have it the first few days. As long as he's not actually hurting her, I would stop him. The rescue lady told us that if we as "parents" get involved, their issues as dogs between each other will never be solved. She said it's just like having two children. I hope this helps. |
