Yorkie thinks litter box is candy store I have 2 yorkies and 5 cats. My 7 year old yorkie has never paid any attention to the litter boxes (I have 3 electronic ones) even though the vet warned me he might. Then 2 months ago I got a yorkie puppy and oh my! he acts like he is in a candy store. I put a barracade up that my cats could jump over but thought it was too tall for Gleason but I was sooo wrong. Im afraid to put it up too high because the cats have to get to their litterboxes. Any suggestions? Has anyone else run into this problem? |
Simple: Put a puppy gate in the door of the room where the litter box is. The cat(s) will be able to jump over it and the dog (obviously) won't. :) |
My two cats have no problems jumping over a 26" high gate, so unless your cats are getting on in years, putting up the gate should be fine. Good luck! |
Thanks for letting me know. I was afraid my baby gate would be to high. I do have a 22 lb. Maine Coon so I will have to watch and see if he can clear the gate (lol) but I am going to try it. I tell you that is one thing that really gets to me, and to think he will turn around and lick me right in the face before I can stop him. I love him to death but boy I sure want to get this problem solved. |
if that doesnt work, we picked one of these up at petsmart and have no problems since then ![]() |
All I know is cat poop is a big NO NO for them..I'm having a problem with mine eating hers and the other dogs poop, she gets to it before I even know it's there..:( i am giving her some stuff right now to keep her from eating it...it's soooo disgusting..:( |
I think putting up a gate would be a great deal. |
WoW, I've never seen one like that, didn't even know they made something like that. That's a good idea too. Thanks |
Bella has never done that before. But my Teddy loves bringing poop in the house. And I think he eats them too. What is a mother to do? Why do yorkies like it? |
Davis, how is the baby gate working? If the cats refuse to jump the gate to get to their litter box, you can try and put something in the cat food called S.E.P (Stop Eating Poop). Solid Gold makes it, and I put that in Bitsy's food so she won't eat her own poop. You can also put it in the cat's food. It makes the poop taste bad so the puppy will stop eating it. |

My 22 lb cat had a bit of a problem getting over it - the others got over it fine. Never heard of SEP but I will sure look into it. That really sounds like a great solution. I sure don't want to be down with my knee replacement surgery and have Gleason bring his poop candy to the bed. Yugh! The other night I turned over on my pillow and they was a piece on my pillow. He's only 4 months old so what can I say but it sure made my stomach do flips. Thanks for the great suggestion. |
