Writing a paper...Need help! Hey everyone!! Sorry I haven't been on in...3 weeks! School has been VERY gruling! Anyways, I'm asking for everyone's help. I'm doing a paper on the top ten yorkie myths and outrageous facts and I was wondering if everyone could help me out. So far I have come up with the fact that yorkie's don't have fur they have hair and the fact that there is NO such thing as a teacup yorkie. I'm trying to write this paper to educate my teacher. She owns a yorkie but knows NOTHING about them. She is actually trying to breed her yorkie who is 3 pounds with a male that is 7 pounds!! She also is claiming that her yorkie is a teacup, even after I explained that there is no such thing. So I decided to write my next paper on yorkies while educating her without her knowing it! Any questions would really help! Thanks! |
How about the myth that they can't be potty trained/ or are hard to train at all? |
And what about that they're "yappy little dogs"? I thought that until I got Max and he's totally laid back unless a stranger comes into the house or yard. Then, he's the "guard dog". |
I'll have to think some on it, but I wanted to say what a clever paper to write!! |
They don't get along with children or other dogs. My dog loves both children and other dogs, so that's a myth. |
"Little" dogs, like Yorkies, don't act like "Big" dogs. A "real man" wouldn't own a Yorkie. All they want to do is sit on your lap. I'm sure I'll think of more. |
How about that they're girly dogs? Although I don't know how you DISPROVE that myth unless you want us all to send you pics of our hubbies snuggling with them!! ;) |
Thanks everyone!! These are great! Keep'um coming and maybe I'll extend my paper to the top 20 myths!! Ha ha ha! |
I'd explain why you can't breed a big yorkie to a little one. That their pig headed when it comes to training. |
Ankle biters myth the whole teacup/miniature/standard thing. I'd explain the standard of a yorkie some people believe silkies and yorkies are the same breed..you could do something with that |

Also, the one about yorkies being "fufu lap dogs"...tell the history and how they were originally bred to be ratters Also, when you demyth teacups, be sure to quote the info from the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America on teacups |
I think another myth is that people who are allergic to dogs are allergic to yorkies too.... aren't they hypoallergenic because they have no undercoat and have hair close to humans??? |
Be careful, you don't want to educate her too much, and end up with an F....I had teaches that were spitful like that. Goodluck on the paper, and let us all read it when you are done! |
It may be a myth (I'm not sure) that yorkies are tiny dogs. I have a 13 lb Yorkie (some people dont believe she is a yorkie!) and one YT member (Tammy) has a 20 lb Yorkie. Maybe you can come up with comething from the FAQ section http://yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6016 |
