I think everyone should understand that not all of us read every single thread on here, therefore we are not aware of what's going on with every single member. There's a new thread posted every few minutes so it's kinda hard to keep up. Not to mention thousands of members on this forum. To say the author of this thread is rude, I think it's a bit harsh considering she didn't mean any harm towards anyone. I see the word "rude" being used very loosely on this forum. It's a very hurtful word. Let's try not to be so judgemental and jump the gun. We all have different opinions and sometimes the message is miscommunicated, so try not to attack each other. There are a lot of "bad" people out there, but I truly believe most of the members here are very kind hearted and wouldn't intentionally hurt anyone. |
I posted this same artical In OFF topic Called How could you. A man in Grand Rapids, Michigan took out a $7000 full page ad in the paper to present the following essay to the people of his community: HOW COULD YOU? By Jim Willis, 2001 A Note from the Author: If "How Could You?" brought tears to your eyes as you read it, as it did to mine as I wrote it, it is because it is the composite story of the millions of formerly "owned" pets who die each year in American & Canadian animal shelters. Anyone is welcome to distribute the essay for a noncommercial purpose,as long as it is properly attributed with the copyright notice. Please use it to help educate, on your websites, in newsletters, on animal shelter and vet office bulletin boards. Tell the public that the decision to add a pet to the family is an important one for life, that animals deserve our love and sensible care, that finding another appropriate home for your animal is your responsibility and any local humane society or animal welfare league can offer you good advice, and that all life is precious. Please do your part to stop the killing, and encourage all spay and neuter campaigns in order to prevent unwanted animals. - Jim Willis http://plantranch. net/animalrights.htm |

I think there is never a reason to abandon your loving and cherished companion at a shelter. Never, ever ever is there a reason for that. Rehoming on the other hand if it is done responsibly is sometimes a painful thing that has to be done. In a perfect world nothing would ever go wrong and we could alway keep our babies with us, but I think sometimes life happens and there are sitations where there is no other choice. I consider rehoming under strenuous or unfair circumstances to the pet is the most loving thing an owner can do. It definitely hurts the owner more than the dog IMO. |

So dont feel bad, You found homes for your babys and we all know if there was any other way you would of kept them. You can tell the love you have for them through each and every post that you post. Didnt I read not to long ago about you worrying about a beagle that had been running lose. I know I did, because you are one that has love for animals, this has nothing to do with rehoming. |
I dont think the Op or anyone else meant to hurt anyone. I too had posted this in Off Topic not meaning to hurt anyone,It was Titled how could you, Thats the way I found it. and above is the website it came from but things go from site to site and things and titles get changed. I dont think anyone was trying to hurt anyone from posting it. I read it and thought it was sad and posted it. I think it is meaning is not caring where your once loved pet ends up . |

I agree.. I think we all agree on what you said. |
I know it had nothing to do with me, it's just a sad story. And now it's a tad more personal...so I was sad. :) I know that the OP didn't start it in an attempt to hurt anyones feelings. on the other hand, rehoming your dog is totally different than giving it to a shelter. |
