Help! Is she or Isn't she Pregnant?? I'm new to this site. And I was hoping that some of you that are experienced with Yorkies and pregnancy can help. My yorkie's name is Bell. I mated her on Oct 29th. I brought her to the vet today, because I think she might be pregnant(actually hoping that she is) Bell has been very lazy lately, Not playing, she had a bout with morning sickness where she would throw up bile. Her belly isn't getting any bigger but I thought her teats(nipples) were protruding a little. But when we went to the vet today the vet said that her mamoray glands were not swollen, and that she would need an x-ray. Has anyone had this happen to them and then find out their dog was pregnant?? And does any one know how much this is going to cost me, I of course did not ask! And being around Christmas time I don't need another expensive bill. I would be grateful for any help. Oh by the way if she is pregnant she would deliver around New Years! |
Is this her first litter? If things go well, she will be fine and give birth with no help..but if things get complicated (which they could if its her first litter) and she needs a c-section etc, then yes..it can be expensive. I have no idea what a c-section for a dog costs where you are,but here,in spain,it costs about 400euros (over $400)..not including medication or over night stay etc.You should really take her in for an x-ray so that the vet can see how many pups there are (if there are any) and of course, how big they are..he will also messure her hips and will be able to see if the pups will have trouble passing.Even if things look ok,you should always have some money put by just in case..you never know what could happen and you dont want to lose your female or the pups..so being ready for the worst IS a good idea in these cases. There is ALOT to learn about breeding. I hope everything goes well! |
Actually my Bell is a bigger yorkie, Shes weighted in at 8 lbs today.. So I don't think that birthing a puppy will be a problem, Even though I wouldn't hesitate to bring her to the vet if there was a hint of her having problems. My question was how much do you think the X-rays will cost? And has anyone brought their dog to the vet and the vet said " Her mammary glands are not swollen" But the dog was pregnant anyway!! I really want her to be pregnant, And now I think she might not be.. So I don't want to go through the expense if shes not pregnant.. Thanks |
Even big dogs can have problems birthing..its not just the size of the pups, its how they decide to come out as well..one could be on its side and block the "outing" which would also mean a c-section..or even the simple fact that the pup comes feet first. Here x-rays are not very cheap, about 60euros (over $60) but most people here have insurance which covers all this so as a rule we dont have to worry about it as we just give our insurance card in on our way out and the vet gets paid through our insurance company.Couldent your vet do an ultrasound to see if your female is pregnant? I think those are cheaper. |
Thanks I'll ask her about the ultra sound.. |
